Dental implants replace your natural tooth roots. When you lose a tooth, it is imperative to replace not only the visible part of the tooth (the crown), but the tooth roots as well. This is because the tooth roots preserve the bone in your jaw. When there is no tooth root to support your jawbone, bone resorption occurs. The bone will melt away, or deteriorate. The bone in your jaw can be preserved by placing a dental implant to replace the tooth root. The jawbone will bond with the dental implant, which makes the implant a permanent tooth root replacement. Then the dental implant becomes a strong foundation for biting, eating, speaking, and stimulating the bone to protect the facial structure.
Bridges
A fixed bridge is a tooth replacement with a dental crown connected on either side. The crowns are placed on the teeth adjacent to the empty space. Some tooth enamel is usually removed from these teeth to allow room for the bridge.

Root Canal Treatment
*Remember that every time you must replace a bridge, the adjacent teeth supporting the bridge need further grinding. This results in the removal of even more tooth structure and often results in the need for root canal treatment. If this is the case, there will be additional fees from $800 to $1,900.

Overdentures
With a bar attachment denture, four to six implants are placed into your lower jaw. After healing, our oral surgeon will connect the implants with a custom-made support bar. Your denture will be constructed with internal retention clips that attach onto the support bar. This enables the overdenture to snap firmly into place. This option is much more stable than the ball attachment denture and allows very little denture movement. Your denture is still removable for easy cleaning and maintenance.

Pre-prosthetic Surgery
Pre-prosthetic surgery is the preparation of a patient’s mouth before a prosthesis, or denture, is placed. Dr. Michael Shnayder is proud to provide pre-prosthetic surgery in Omaha, Nebraska. Your dentures will sit on your bone ridge, so it is imperative that the bone is the proper shape and size. If you have had a tooth extracted, the underlying bone may become sharp or uneven. For your denture to fit properly and comfortably, our oral surgeon may need to smooth or reshape the bone ridge. Sometimes, excess bone is removed before dentures are placed. Tooth Extractions
There are a number of reasons why you and Dr. Michael Shnayder may determine that you need a tooth extraction. Tooth extraction can lead to issues with chewing ability, problems with the jaw joint, and shifting teeth. To avoid these problems, our oral surgeon will discuss any alternatives to extraction and tooth replacement options.
Ridge Augmentation
Following a tooth extraction, a ridge augmentation is commonly performed by our oral surgeon to recreate the natural contour of the gums and jaw that have been lost. The bone that surrounds the roots of your teeth is called the alveolar ridge. An empty socket is left in the alveolar ridge bone when a tooth is lost or extracted. In most cases, the empty socket will heal on its own and bone and tissues will grow, filling it. However, the bone surrounding the socket will occasionally break, making the alveolar ridge unable to heal on its own. If this is the case, the height and width of the socket will deteriorate.

Braces
If the eyetooth will not erupt on its own, your orthodontist and oral surgeon will work together to get the impacted tooth or teeth to erupt. Your orthodontist will place braces on the upper arch to open a space for the impacted tooth to move into. If the baby cuspid is still in place, it is usually left until the permanent eyetooth is ready. When the space is ready, you will be referred to Dr. Michael Shnayder to have the impacted cuspid exposed and bracketed.
