The Oklahoma City Police Department is a law enforcement agency that enhances public safety. It offers a citizen alert program that allows the department to periodically send crime alerts, news releases and safety advisories to subscribers via e-mailing and text messaging devices. The department operates a recruit training academy that provides instruction on several topics, including criminal and constitutional laws, emergency vehicle operations, firearms training, self-defense tactics and minority relations. It has various divisions, including investigations, K-9, lake patrol, air support, bomb squad, technical investigations, gang enforcement and emergency response team. The Oklahoma City Police Department s police community relations unit has a team of specially trained officers that provides information to neighborhood associations, businesses, churches and other groups on a variety of issues, including safety, crime prevention and drug abuse.
