Founded in 1985, the Seneca Center is one of the leading providers of community-based treatment services to seriously troubled children and families in Northern California. Its Intensive Treatment Foster Care (ITFC) program offers family-based treatment and group care services to children with emotional and behavioral difficulties. The center s school-based services include after-school programs and individual, group and family therapies. The Seneca Center also provides special education services for students with exceptional needs. In addition to basic subjects, such as reading, math, language skills and science, special need students participate in educational activities, including researching and debating current issues, researching topics of personal interest at local libraries, and developing and practicing independent living skills. Its residential services include 24-hour care in a home-like setting. The center is located in Oakland, Calif.
