Amy is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and Family Nurse Practitioner with a board certification in non-surgical pain management. She joined the hospital in March 2009 to provide anesthesia services to the OR department, and has expanded her services into pain management and family practice recently.

A well-child visit is not part of the special sports physical rate and will be submitted to your insurance, possibly requiring a minimal copayment. The medical staff consists of providers that are multi-specialists in family practice, internal medicine, cardiology, sports medicine, and geriatrics. There are also a number of specialists on our courtesy staff that provide services such as cataract and general surgery. The physicians team up with the highly trained nursing staff to provide excellent patient care. Physical Therapists and our Certified Nurse Anesthetist provide additional services to meet the needs of our community.

Internal Medicine
Dr. O’Brien is the Medical Director of the Oakes Community Clinic and Hospital. She is an internal medicine physician specializing in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. As an internist she is specially trained to solve puzzling diagnostic problems and can handle severe chronic illnesses and situations where several different illnesses may strike at the same time. She also brings an understanding of wellness, disease prevention and the promotion of health.

Oakes Community Hospital, dba CHI Oakes Hospital, is a 20-bed critical access hospital that provides various inpatient and outpatient services to approximately 14,000 people in southeastern North Dakota. We are 42 miles from the nearest CAH and approximately 70 miles from the closest hospital offering a higher level of care. CHI Oakes Hospital is also a 24-Hour Emergency Level V Trauma Center. The hospital building was newly-constructed in 2007, replacing a 50-year-old building, and in 2010, Oakes Community Clinic was opened within the hospital building. The hospital is part of a larger values-based organization, Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI). Some of the challenges faced by CHI Oakes Hospital are declining population, aging population, remote location, lack of mental health resources, difficulties in hiring and retaining staff, and fiscal challenges.

Amy is our pain clinic provider. Her practice is dedicated to alleviating pain and improving quality of life. Amy specializes in the treatment of back, neck and other pain conditions. She performs interventional pain management procedures utilizing fluoroscopic and ultrasound guidance.

In August 2010 Oakes Community Hospital opened the LaMoure Clinic. The first provider in this clinic was Larry Hendricks, Physician Assistant. Mobile Digital Mammography came to the LaMoure Clinic in October 2010. This clinic was closed in 2012.

James is a Board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. He received his degree in 2013 from the University of Mary—Bismarck, ND, and has practiced in the Oakes community since 2013. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, he served in the US Navy and US Air Force and retired in 2006 after 22 years in the military. His services cover patients with a variety of diagnoses, providing age-appropriate holistic care for newborns to geriatrics, including wellness, acute care, injections/aspirations, minor procedures, wound care, sports physicals and DOT physicals.
