Das Waldcafe

This was my first time going here with my husband, we had been fishing on the water during the day and decided to go somewhere we never have gone before and we both love German food considering his grandfather was German and I grew up in Germany. There was not anybody else eating there except a guy getting ready to leave when we were sat at a table. The food was ok and the waitress was great but there was an older lady there that was staring at me in almost disgust that I believed worked there, as she was not in dress attire as the waitresses. When we were at the register my husband was being polite trying to make small talk about our relevance to Germany and she was completely shrugging him off ignoring him not even cracking a smile till he handed her the tip and she looks to me and says, next time you come in here you can't wear that that's meant to be worn at the beach. I was wearing black mid legnth shorts with a bathing suit underneath a black tank top that had a cut design on the back which was not inappropriate not to mention there was NO sign of anything having to do with dress attire by customers. I was in shock and felt judged and ridiculed as a mother, wife, and responsible adult. They have lost our business and any one we know who enjoys German food as much as we do. We will never be back there again.

2/22/2012 We had 7 in our group. The food was delicious! The service was wonderful. Our waiter "Paul" was very nice and helpful. Overall it was a great experience and we had a really good time. The restaurant itself was a little hard to find but was quite clean. I enjoyed the evening!

This establishment has a good reputation among locals, but, I really can't see the reason for it. The restaurant is located beside a busy road in a rundown, old frame building. The interior is spare and plain. There is no atmosphere inside or out. The food is average and certainly not worth the drive or the price. But the weirdest thing of all is the service. It borders on the hostile. From personal experience I know that Germans can be blunt and uncompromising, but this lot was cranky and borderline insulting. My wife ordered a plain green salad without dressing (she's watching her weight) to which the waitress (an older German woman) rolled her eyes and snapped, "No dressing? What kind of person eats salad without dressing?" Then she stomped off. When she returned she slammed the salad plate down with a loud thud and glared at my wife as though she were her worst enemy. We were both floored . Things didn't get any better after that. The service was painfully slow. And when the entree did come we weren't impressed with the quality of the flavor. It was all low end Gasthaus fare. I strongly recommend that you avoid this place. If, like me, you have spent time in Germany, don't let this place spoil the fond memories.

I gave this place one star and it is highly over-rated .Never made it to actual dining - maybe it is good. First waited for 15 minutes before being acknowledged. After we got seated, we spent another 15 minutes to be acknowledged by a waitress who informed us that it will be at least 2 hours (!!!!) before they can serve us.When I called o make reservation nobody told me that it takes that long. After notifying so called "host" about this situation all I got in return was "it is what it is, I appreciate your business" in a really sarcastic tone by this moron. I felt like being spit on. I will not set my foot in this place ever again and I would not recommend it to anyone. I like German food but I will find another place where my business is appreciated. There was another couple who came right after us and when we drove off I saw them walking out of the restaurant as well. In the last 30 years of dining around I have never had worse experience anywhere. Both thumbs down.
