Emory Stedman drove his Model T truck to western New York in the spring of 1920 in search of land to begin his nursery. He needed fertile ground tempered by the Great Lakes to achieve his goal of producing hardy nursery stock. Stedman Old Farm Nurseries, the company he founded currently grows more than 1-million landscape plants on approximately 300 acres of nursery farms. The company s garden centers contain approximately a quarter of a million container-grown plants including around 140 varieties of perennials. Stedman Old Farm Nurseries corporate headquarters are located at its Newfane, N.Y., garden center. The company has additional centers in East Amherst and Orchard Park, N.Y.
