Neuropathy involves nerve damage that is a result of a wide range of medical conditions. The nerve damage also brings on weakness, pain, or numbness to different parts of the body all at one time. A common way to develop neuropathy is being treated for various cancers and the chemotherapy treatment's side effects leave the person numb.
Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy involves the use of x-rays and other radioactive imaging procedures to eliminate cancer cells directly. This type of therapy is designed to eliminate fast-growing cells, so the radiated waves will kill more cancerous cells than normal cells.

Neurosurgery
For more advanced cases, neurosurgery and other orthopedic surgical procedures may be performed in an effort to eliminate some motor nerves in the spinal root hopefully to stop spasticity from happening.

Physical Therapists

Physical Therapy
Some treatment plans may incorporate steroids for a short period of time until a long-term plan has been developed. In the meantime, creams, antidepressants, or opioids may be prescribed to relieve some symptoms. If the person has muscle weakness, they may be recommended to start a physical therapy routine. For more advanced cases, surgery may be recommended to relieve pressure build-up inside the body.

Since chronic pain has the potential to impact your entire life, treatment for chronic pain includes pain relief and a support system to fall back on. Most medical facilities offer a pain management program with the ultimate goal of returning you back to almost where you were before the pain started. Medications typically prescribed in this program involve either over-the-counter (OTC), opioids (reserved for high pain cases) and antidepressants. Some may be enrolled into occupational therapy to stimulate exercise and others may be given emotional support.
