Schmit Towing Inc

We did not have a good experience with Schmit Towing. My son parked in a parking lot while his team took a team bus out of town. He unfortunately left his keys in the locker there. They mailed them back to us and it took 10 days. He was told his car was fine being parked in the lot that it was in. When we went back to get it, it was gone. We made over 40 phone calls trying to find the car. We called the businesses that owned the lot and were told no one had it towed. We called police, towing companies and impound lots. We called Schmit towing twice and they told us they did not have the car. We were at the point of reporting it stolen.

The third time we called Schmit Towing they confirmed they had the car. They had it for nine days. They wanted to charge us $729. When I explained the situation they dropped the price to $500, which is still pretty high. To my knowledge they made no attempt to contact us to notify us they had our car. They said they sent us a letter, which we did not get. My insurance card was in the front seat and was visible. My name was on it but they did not contact me while charging $50 for each day the car was there. Not being able to find the car caused a great deal of stress. When I spoke to the manager on the phone it felt confrontational. When my son went to pick up the car the manager told him he was military, a former Marine and he would not back down. He would only honor the price of $500 if I agreed not to write reviews online.

I will say, the woman who I spoke to when I called dispatch was very kind. I started to cry when explain the situation to her. She asked if I was ok and it her question showed empathy and offered some comfort. In the moment it was very kind and meant a lot to me.

That said, overall this was not a positive experience.

They charge a $20 fee to pay by credit card. They charged me $50 to get my prescribed (and needed, timed) medication from my car and prohibited me from getting any of my other personal property. Everybody we dealt with was incredibly rude and very unprofessional. Didnt metion extra fees until they were being charged. Damaged my car. Avoid this company.
