Whitfield's Restaurant

Hubby & I went there for dinner. The ONLY reason that we went was because I had purchased a Groupon. I paid $20 for a gift certificate valued at $40. The chef there apparently only knows how to cook steaks rare! I ordered the $35 Filet Mignon Medium-Well. After sending it back to the the kitchen TWICE, and the steak still coming back barely cooked to Medium, I gave up. The manager (??) came to the table & apologized for the problem and his exact words were " Your meal is on me". He boxed the meal up so that I could take it home & cook it myself. We sat waiting for the bill, totalling expecting to pay for my husband's meal & my soft drink & salad. The waitress, who had taken our Groupon at the beginning of the meal, came to the table, apologized again for the problems and said "Everything's been taken care of. Have a good evening". Instead of charging us for my husband's meal, et al, and returning the Groupon back to us for use at another time, they simply did not bring us a bill of any kind and kept our Groupon.



The smarter thing to do would have been to return the Groupon to us & simply charged us for my husband's meal & my soft drink & salad. That would have made us return to use the groupon and given the restaurant another chance to impress us. Instead, the way they did it only made us feel cheated out of our money! Not smart business, Whitfield's! I guess I'll agree with a review I read before leaving for Whitfield's - A reviewer had written "that if you wanted a good steak, to save yourself the trouble and just go around the corner to Sperry's to begin with". I will from now on...
