Several scenarios exist for combination augmentation with mastopexy. For most patients, the pre-operative concern is inadequate breast volume along with breast sagging, commonly seen after childbirth. The combination of a breast implant (for volume) and a breast lift (for shaping) will restore a pleasing look, or "perkiness", of the breasts. Much less frequently, a patient will have a severe difference in size of the breasts, where one breast needs more volume (with an implant) and the other breast needs less volume (with a reduction or mastopexy). As with any breast enhancement procedure, the choice of saline or silicone implants is determined by patient and doctor, and by the needs of the procedure.

Ultrasound
Chemotherapy
The most common technique used. A skin stretcher (tissue expander) is placed under the chest muscle and skin, and over the course of several months is stretched by the addition of sterile saline fluid placed in the expander, to create a stretched breast-shaped pocket. The expander is then replaced with the permanent implant in an outpatient procedure to complete the reconstruction. A nipple reconstruction and areolar tattooing can be performed if the patient desires. This entire reconstructive procedure takes at least four months to complete, but longer if the patient undergoes chemotherapy.

Dr. Oslin, a Chattanooga, Tennessee, native, graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Affiliated Hospitals in 1994, where he served as Chief Resident from 1993 to 1994. After training in acute and reconstructive burn surgery at Vanderbilt University Burn Center, he completed his plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. Oslin has been in private practice since 1996. In 2001 he formed Oslin Plastic Surgery, PLLC.
