Dr. Dan and his staff are passionate about providing excellent care. We were referred to Riverside when one of our Huskies tore her cruciate ligament. Very concerned due to age, but she's doing great. Dr. Dan took time to speak with me on the phone, explained the issues, addressed my concerns, before we even made an appointment. The day of surgery, Dr. Dan called to give me an update. When I picked her up, he asked me to call the next day and let him know how she was doing. Dr. Dan really cares.

It IS possible to have dogs and cats and NOT have fleas and ticks. The old fashioned “flea bath” and “flea dip” has gone by the wayside, since they have limited effectiveness. Newer pharmaceuticals have been developed that are topically applied or oral. Most last a month, some last even longer for fleas! There is even one that is so super safe, because it stays strictly in the skin, that can be INGESTED (it is intended to be a topical) at 10 times the topical dose and the worst effect was excessive salivation!

Dr. Kelli Ruther, originally from Clinton, Iowa, attended Iowa State University for her undergraduate studies where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Following graduation, she worked for Nestle Purina PetCare before returning to Iowa State where she graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. Her special interests include internal medicine, ophthalmology, wound care, and nutrition. In her free time, Dr. Kelli enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She enjoys running, gardening, camping, and tending to their farm.

Interested in all aspects of veterinary medicine, Dr. Dan does have a special interest in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, laser applications for surgery and healing, plus current and new medication and medical techniques. He has found it especially gratifying to see the positive affects our new therapy laser has had on his orthopedic surgical cases!

Declawing
Though declawing cats is a frequently controversial subject, there are times when it is a procedure that allows a cat to stay in a home which it would otherwise lose. That debate aside, we feel sure that a laser declaw makes a significantly less painful and less complicated surgery. If you have a kitty that needs to be declawed, laser surgery is definitely the way to go. We are pleased to offer laser surgery to the pets in our area!
