Macular Degeneration
The macula is a highly specialized area of the retina, responsible for your most precise, sharpest vision. This delicate part of the eye is particularly vulnerable to many things including age, ultraviolet light and other factors that can lead to deterioration of vision. Whether “dry” (atrophic) or “wet” (hemorrhagic), macular degeneration leads to the loss of central vision, preventing one from achieving crisp, clear vision. Because this condition is most effectively managed in its early stages, prompt intervention and treatment are essential. While age remains the most prevalent risk factor for developing macular degeneration, other risk factors include smoking, obesity, race, a family history of the disease and gender.

Cataracts
How does UV affect unprotected eyes? UV rays can cause proteins inside the lens to become opaque or cloudy, a condition known as cataracts. Cataracts can make interfere with night vision, reduce your ability to see colors, and make reading difficult; they cannot be reversed, only removed. UV exposure can also cause retinal damage, changes in the eye tissues, and a temporary but irritating "sunburn" of the cornea called photokeratitis.

When a cataract develops in the lens, vision may become cloudy or blurry. Colors may seem to fade or appear dull, and you may begin to have difficulty performing daily tasks.There are many different kinds of cataracts that can develop, and some progress faster than others. As your cataracts progress, your eye doctor may recommend that you consider cataract surgery.
Eye Exam

Spend Time in the Sun. Your body produces vitamin D when you venture outdoors on a sunny day. Unfortunately, most people don't get enough vitamin D through sun exposure alone. Doctors don't recommend that you use low vitamin D as an excuse to sunbathe though, as sun exposure increases your skin cancer risk.

If the abrasion becomes infected, you may develop an ulcer, or sore, on your cornea. Infected corneal ulcers are also treated with antibiotic drops, in addition to antibiotics (or antiviral or antifungal) drops.
