Sears Auto used to be pretty good, honest, pretty good service, pretty good prices. That was then; things have changed. I suspect there’s a new manager. There sure is a new policy.

One of the major reasons we went to Sears, especially for tires and related items, was an experience I had a couple of years ago. A Tires Plus store had told me I needed new tires, and they would be glad to order them. Sears had them in stock. When I went to get a price and estimate of time needed to do the job, the Sears guy told me I had about 10,000 miles left in the ones I had, and he would wait if it were he. I was sold. Sears for me from then on.

This year my wife needed new tires, and the 10,000 was up on mine. She got her’s first. They forgot the value caps, and had really uneven inflation when done. They also told her she needed an alignment, which she did, but she had it done at the dealer as she had to go there for something else. One of the new tires had a slow leak – took about a week to drop from 36 psi to 25 psi. We filled it four times before taking it back to Sears to get it checked. They charged my wife $25 to “fix” the valve stem. Worked fine before the new tires, not so good after. Then they told her she really needed that alignment. The one she’d had less than 300 miles before. While she was there, she heard several high-pressure attempts on the part of Sears salesmen, especially directed toward women, selling them things they may have needed, but my wife, no automotive mechanic but not dumb either, felt like she was in a time-share sales office rather than the old Sears Auto we’ll-look-out-for-you store.

We won’t be going back.

servise poor at best

Needed new tire for my Impala. Called around and found sears had a good deal running on some sumitomo tires buy 3 get fourth free. I called back and had them reserve the tires for me so theat they would be there on my day off. I came in about mid morning. it was a week day and they weren't too busy. They pull my car in and put it on the rack.about 40 minutes later they proceed to dismantle the tires. About thirty minutes after that a sales person tells me that the don't have the tires in stock and that they will have to go get them from another store or I could choose a different tire. So after an hour and a half of waiting, for a job I was quoted an hour for, I can either wait another 2 hours or choose a different tire. Well at that point I said forget it, put my car back together. Thirty minutes later I leave and go home. I don't know what they did but after that my carwas vibrating and pulling all over the place. That weekend I went to a much better auto center and had new tire put on. It cost about 60 dollars more but It was better than wasting all that time. Day ruined thanks to Sears.

Also that Auto center is Disgusting. There were cockroaches behind the coffee maker and in the bathroom. And the service area was a total mess, parts and trash all over the place, spilt oil and I think coolant. The place should be shut down.
