Dental Examination
If you are noticing your gums are inflamed and your teeth are becoming loose, you may have gum disease. Gum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, can cause severe damage to the gums and bone structure that supports the teeth. Early detection is key to preventing the infection from spreading, so schedule an oral examination with Dr. Kiya Green as soon as you notice any symptoms.
Oral Cancer Screening
Benign conditions of the oral cavity can often mimic precancerous or cancerous lesions. Oral cancer screenings should be performed at least once per year, and more often if you are at an elevated risk of developing oral cancer. Your doctor may perform a number of tests or exams to determine the cause of any symptoms that you are experiencing and to diagnose the disease. Typically, a visual screening is first conducted to identify any abnormal areas. Intraoral pictures are often taken to help document the appearance of the lesion on that specific date. A biopsy or tissue removal is usually the best way to determine a diagnosis, as the sample is sent to a pathology laboratory for analysis. Oral ID is a no charge and with the flourscent lighting it can detect early signs of oral cancer.

Crowns
Periodontal Plastic Surgery refers to cosmetic procedures performed on the gums to enhance the appearance and health of the smile. Also referred to as gum reduction surgery, crown lengthening may be a recommendation when too much gum tissue is present. This periodontal plastic surgery procedure can be rendered in two forms and is most often performed by a dental professional.
Bridges
When a fixed bridge is placed, the bone under the pontic, or middle, portion of the bridge where the tooth has been lost has a tendency to sink and can affect the overall facial structure. Guided tissue regeneration can be used to repair the esthetics of the bone under the bridge, adding support for the facial structures to remain in attractive form.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
A gingivectomy is performed when a patient has excess loose, diseased tissue related to the presence of plaque and calculus (tartar) build-up under the gum. Removing this tissue allows better access to clean bacteria off the tooth’s root. Clean roots allow healthy tissues, which is important to your overall health.
Deep Cleaning
The general steps of scaling and root planing treatment may include a local anesthetic to numb the areas that will be treated. Your doctor may suggest a form of sedation, if necessary. The treatment often requires hand instruments and an ultrasonic tool to remove the plaque and calculus accumulation. Your doctor or dental hygienist will use the instruments below the gum line to clean the roots of your teeth and smooth any rough surfaces. The goal of this deep cleaning process is to clear away plaque and tartar as well as smooth the surfaces of the teeth to encourage the gum tissues to reattach to the teeth.

Maintaining a full set of teeth is important for overall functioning and oral health. When a tooth is missing, the jaw bone can start to deteriorate due to a lack of stimulation. Flap Surgery
Osseous surgery (or flap surgery) is performed on patients who have moderate or advanced periodontal disease. Typically, flap surgery is performed after scaling and root planing has been attempted but has not been successful in treating existing periodontal disease.
Gum Surgery
The LANAP® laser protocol makes it possible to save loose teeth that may otherwise need to be extracted. If you have been diagnosed with gum disease, it is important to educate yourself about the different periodontal disease treatment options available and understand how laser gum surgery works.
Osseous Surgery
In the rare occasion where LANAP is not indicated or can not be done, true osseous surgery (or flap surgery) is performed on patients who have moderate or advanced periodontal disease. Typically, flap surgery is performed after scaling and root planing

Ridge Augmentation
Ridge augmentation is a common procedure performed to help recreate the natural contour of the gums. Often, after a tooth is removed, the bone in the jaw will begin to deteriorate and recede. The height and width of the socket, which was supported by the tooth, will begin to shrink after the tooth is removed. Many patients will eventually develop an indentation in the gums where the tooth used to be as a result of tooth and bone loss.
Bone Grafting
Guided tissue bone regeneration does not always require the removal of bone from any other part of the body. Instead, doctors offer many options that use membrane barriers, tissue stimulating proteins, or bioactive growth factor gels. Occasionally, bone grafting procedures are required. Bone grafts can be from your own bone, tissue banks, or synthetic materials. The goal of each of these treatment options is to stimulate the body to grow new bone or to hold the space for the bone to regenerate into.

Braces
Children and teens with braces may have a difficult time brushing their teeth with traditional braces. Often times they may present with tissue overgrowth that covers the tooth, trapping bacteria underneath and the trapped bacteria causes cavities to form. If the excess tissue is not removed during orthodontic therapy to allow for proper oral hygiene to help prevent such cavities, the patient may develop permanently “marbled” and discolored teeth.
