ABCD Headstart Program, founded in 1965, is one of the earliest programs of the Action for Boston Community Development. The program is Boston's primary source for providing a comprehensive, holistic, family intervention program to low-income, preschool children and their families. It serves more than 2,000 prekindergarten children in 25 neighborhood-based programs throughout Boston and more than 180 infants, toddlers, young parents and pregnant women in Early Head Start programs. ABCD Headstart Program offers education, health, special education, dental, mental health, social, and nutritional services. The children in ABCD Head Start received full-day, full-year services through multiple funding sources to meet the needs of working and in-school parents. It is headquartered in Mattapan, Mass.
