Ophthalmology

Macular Degeneration
The most frequently employed test is Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). This technique uses light waves to create three-dimensional images of the retina and choroid. It is painless and requires no contact or puffs of air. OCT has become a vital tool in the advancements in treatment for many diseases, but especially diseases of the macula, such as age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Laser Eye Surgery

Endocrinologist

Thyroid
Dry eyes occur when too few tears are produced or when the tears produced do not function normally. In either case, dry spots form on the outer surfaces of the eye. In most cases, there is no underlying disorder behind the dry eye. In some cases, dry eyes are associated with allergies, thyroid disease, arthritis and other connective tissue disorders.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Your Retina Specialist may use another key test called Fluorescein Angiography. During this procedure, dye is injected through a vein in the arm. Images of the retina are taken. This allows your retina specialist to assess the blood flow to the eye. Like OCT, fluorescein angiography is useful in many diseases, but especially vascular diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein/artery occlusions, and age related macular degeneration.

Ultrasound
Other tests your retina specialist may utilize include Ocular Ultrasound and Visual Field Assessments. Ultrasound employs sound waves to visualize the eye and make measurements on tumors or potential malignancies. Visual field testing assesses peripheral vision and can be affected by any disease process in the pathway from the brain to the eye.
