I had been in need of a new bed for some time and decided that I wanted to try something different from the usual innerspring mattress that I had been using all my life. The last name brand (S&F) innerspring set I purchased (ballpark $1,400) only nine years ago had developed severe sagging indentations (I only weigh 160 pounds) and the construction was such that it could not even be flipped over, only turned end to end. So, I decided to look into the latest memory foam offerings. I started visiting local mattress stores testing out the various models offered by a very well known national brand, famous for memory foam mattress sets. However, the hefty price from well over $1,000 to something around $8,000 seemed more than just a bit extreme. I then proceeded to the internet in hopes of finding out a few more details on the memory foam route. In reading a number of web sites, it seemed to me that the memory foam mattresses were all made with some sort of foam base layer of different thicknesses topped with memory foams of various thicknesses. All this foam is then glued together and covered with a fabric cover to make a bed. I then hit on the FoamFactory web site where a great deal of information on the types of foam available regarding, different weights, densities, and relative longevities were presented. Most enlightening! Armed with this new found knowledge I put together a combination of foam (and covers) to make what I hoped would be a long lasting comfortable bed(s). I went from August 2013 thru November 2013 ordering various combinations of conventional foam base layers (5 , 6 35 lb, 5 50 lb) with basic fabric covers. These were matched with different memory foam toppers (3 5 lb, 4 4 lb). The toppers were ordered with the fancier terry covers. I chucked the old worn out spring mattresses on two beds reserving the box springs. In another case I fashioned a 1/2 inch plywood base to take the place of box spring. I then started test sleeping the various foam combinations I was able to put together from all that I had ordered. The winning combination for me was the plywood base with 5 50 lb, 6 35 lb and 3 5 lb memory combination. My current thinking is that all these layers can be turned and flipped at any time to even out wear allowing for all to last a very long time. The other foam pieces together with a foam topper I had purchase years ago all went to replace two guest beds. So, for less than $1300, 100 less than the price of my original S&F innerspring set, I got three very comfortable high quality beds. Upon returning to the well known national brand memory foam dealer to do a quick test comparison against what I had assembled I could not really tell any difference, even with their highest price model. Bottom line most satisfied.

I bought the 2 1/2 Eggcrate Foam Topper, Foam Type: HD36-HQ, Twin XL 39 x 80 for $43.99. I chose this one because it meets CertiPUR-US certification. This is being used on my son's dorm bed. He loves it!

The foam replacement cushions were for my leather sofa - my puppies at the time decided one day to explore and explore they did...foam everywhere. The foam cushions from Foam Factory is actually better quality than what I replaced, it arrived quickly, and at a great price!
