Child Support
Parents may seek a child support modification of a prior Order where there has been a substantial change of circumstances. In the child support world, that means the data contained in the prior child support worksheet has changed in a manner which results in either a 10% increase or decrease in the child support amount.
Child Custody and Visitation
Child Custody is known as the Allocation of Parental Responsibilities in the state of Colorado. Under the umbrella of Parental Responsibilities, there are two main components, Decision Making and Parenting Time. Decision Making allocation determines the rights of each parent to make major decisions involving their children’s educational, medical, religious, and extra-curricular needs, as well as any other major concerns. Parenting Time involves parenting time schedules and whether one parent has the majority of time with the children.

Spousal Support
In most families, it is rare when both spouses have equal earning power. Typically, one spouse earns more than the other spouse. Many times, as a result of a divorce, one spouse is unable to support himself/herself without financial assistance from the other spouse. In these cases, the court has discretion to order the financially stronger spouse to pay the financially weaker spouse a monthly sum of money for a specific period of time. This is call spousal maintenance.
Child Abuse
In some instances, there is endangerment in a parent’s home due to child abuse or drug/alcohol abuse by a parent. A parent may need to file an emergency motion to restrict parenting time and protect the child. That parent has a higher burden of proof in the court.
