Osteoarthritis is a common condition observed in our canine and feline patients. Although most often thought of as a condition of older animals the truth it occurs in all age groups. Sometimes it is the result of injury or excessive wear and tear exacerbated by obesity. Genetic predisposition, developmental abnormalities, infections and inappropriate immune responses can all result in joint surface damage and degenerative arthritis.

Heart Disease Treatment
We closely monitor your pet during the procedure and the recovery process using advanced monitoring equipment. Parameters often monitored include oxygen concentration in the blood stream (pulse oximetry), electrocardiogram (EKG), core body temperature, respiratory and heart rate, blood pressure and carbon dioxide level. The monitoring findings allow us to perform safe anesthesia.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Three and a half years ago our previous Vet diagnosed our then 15 year old Rat Terrier, "Mary Moon", with kidney failure and recommended leaving her with them for the weekend. The $750 treatment yielded results for a couple of weeks, and then they recommended repeating the subcutaneous fluid hydration for another weekend, $550 this time. I was having a casual conversation with Lisa D. about putting Mary Moon to sleep since $1300 could go a long way in rescuing some other dog that needed care, when she recommended All Creatures, where she works. I have had dogs, cats and birds for sixty years and I have never met a more caring and loving group of people than those in the Long Beach facility. Under their care MM lived to 18+1/2 years old until today. What is it worth to have your companion for another three and a half years? Priceless! 3.5 years of that cute little face trading kisses for cookies, greeting every arrival as though the most important person in the world just came home. Without exception, each of the people from the Receptionists, to the Manager, to the Vet Techs, to the Vets have obviously found their calling. They perform compassionately in their calling, since it would be a complete understatement to say "job". This place is staffed with the sort of Angels that were responsible for keeping our family together for another few years. You should bring your furry or feathered family here too. Periodontal Disease Treatment
Why does my pet need a dental cleaning and how often should this be done? Many of the pets that visit us on a regular basis need professional teeth cleaning. When bacteria irritate the gum line, the gums become inflamed in the early stages of dental disease causing gingivitis. Left untreated, this leads to periodontal disease which causes the loss of the bone and gingival support structure of the tooth and subsequent tooth loss. In addition, the bacteria are consistently released into the blood stream allowing for systemic infections, which can cause damage to internal organs, such as the kidneys, liver and heart. A dental exam is a part of any physical exam at all Creatures Veterinary Hospital.

Veterinary Surgery
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) lasers have become a standard of care in veterinary surgery. Delivering the ideal wavelength (10.6 Im) for all soft tissue surgery. CO2 lasers provide increased precision and result in reduced hemorrhage, swelling, pain and tissue trauma. CO2 lasers also facilitate many laser-improved and laser-specific procedures.
Laser Surgery
We utilize laser surgery for routine and advanced surgical procedures. Laser surgery is performed utilizing a beam of light to vaporize tissue in place of cutting with a scapel. Lasers reduce swelling and decrease postoperative pain. The laser also sterilizes tissue reducing postoperative infections.

Spaying and Neutering
Spay and Neuter Surgery: All Creatures Veterinary Services recommends that all non-breeding dogs be spayed or neutered. The best time to spay your dog is between 6-8 months of age, when they are puppies, to gain the most health benefits from the surgery. We use the most modern anesthesia protocol so that your pet is at minimal risk. Neutering can often be delayed until a male dog has fully matured.

Laboratory Services
When my pet is having surgery, when should I expect an update on my pet? You will receive a call from your pet’s surgeon when your pet is in recovery from the procedure. If there are any abnormalities on pre-anesthetic exam or blood work, you will receive a call prior to the procedure in case we need to change plans. Remember that no news is good news, and you will be contacted immediately should the need arise. One of our licensed veterinary technicians will be available at discharge to discuss the procedure and discharge instructions with you in detail, as well as answer any questions.
X-Ray
My pet has kidney and heart disease, is anesthesia safe? Prior to anesthesia, patients with kidney disease should be fully evaluated with blood tests, urinalysis, and possible ultrasound. Cardiology patients should also be evaluated including blood tests, chest x-rays, and echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart). Our veterinarians will determine based on each individual situation if it is safe for your pet to undergo anesthesia.

Microchips are a safe, unalterable, and permanent identification solution for pet. Microchips dramatically increase the chances that you will recover your pet in the event he/she goes missing or is ever separated from you. It is reliable, it won’t come out or become impossible to read, and it can’t be stolen or damaged. The microchip itself has no internal energy source, so it will last the life of your pet.
