SunCoke Energy furnishes metallurgical coke to integrated steelmakers that utilize blast furnace technology. The company has served the steel industry for more than 40 years and produces over 2.5 million tons of coke per year, which is 15-percent of total U.S. production. It operates plants in Vansant, Va., East Chicago, Ind., and has a heat recovery coke plant and steam generation facility in Haverhill, Ohio. Beginning coke production in 1962, SunCoke's negative-pressure oven technology has undergone 10 generations of design improvement to become a technology leader in the industry. It is also an industry trailblazer in developing cogeneration of electricity in conjunction with coke plant operations. SunCoke is a wholly owned business unit of Sunoco, a Fortune 100 firm.
