It can be unnerving going somewhere new and not knowing what to expect. We want to give you a preview of a typical first appointment with our office. Because we want to get you off to a good start, your first appointment will be a little longer than most future appointments. We’ll be very thorough and check every aspect of your oral health. Two hours will be reserved for your exam and cleaning; whether you use that whole time is up to you. When you first walk in the door, you’ll be greeted by our friendly team at the front desk. From there you’ll be taken to the hygienist. We’ll do an interview and a complete exam, including x-rays and a periodontal check. We’ll also review your health history. From there you’ll be seen by Dr. Potts, who will check your dental health and answer any questions you have.

X-rays
Staff is wonderful! Personable, friendly and efficient. id my dental X-rays and I was impressed by her skills - she worked quickly and expertly - never hesitated, never had to repeat a step and she explained what she was going to do next in a clear and reassuring way. Teeth Cleaning
Went in for teeth cleaning and check-up this week. Very professional. Eliminated some of the most discomfortable parts of the procedure and replaced with alternatives that did not bother me nearly as much.
Fluoride Treatment

Fillings
Amalgam fillings (commonly known as silver fillings) have been around since the 1840s, when dentists learned they could make a paste combining silver and mercury. They didn’t have the same information regarding the toxicity of mercury that we do today. Beginning in the 1980s two new technologies were developed that made another option available. First, a composite, tooth-colored filling material was developed that was strong enough to sustain the pressure needed for even back teeth.. Second, bonding technology developed that enabled the filling to bond directly to the teeth. These composite fillings were a big advancement.
Veneers
Snap-on Smile is a manufactured smile that snaps right over your existing teeth. Dr. Potts is a fully trained and experienced snap-on smile dentist in Lake County, IL. If youâ€™re looking for a fast way to get a smile makeover at a fraction of the price of porcelain veneers, then snap-on smile might be for you. Made out of crystallized acetyl resin by Den-Mat Laboratories, it will not be the type of stunning smile you would get with porcelain veneers, but it can improve your smile. Below are pictures that will give you an idea of what type of results you can expect.
Crowns
In years past, dental crowns had to be fused to a metal foundation in order to be strong enough. Though that gives you a functional restoration, it won’t look beautiful or natural. In order for the metal foundation to be concealed, the crown is made a little opaque. There is also the problem of a black line that will eventually appear at your gumline where your crown and tooth meet. This won’t be visible at first, but after some time passes the gum will pull up and you’ll have a noticeable dark line.
Bridges
The advantages for implants differ in degree depending on whether you are replacing one tooth or multiple teeth. If you are just replacing one tooth, getting a dental implant or a dental bridge are about equal as treatments. With a dental implant, you simply place the implant and crown. With a dental bridge, you’ll also place crowns on the two adjacent teeth with a prosthetic fixed between them. If you already need work on the adjacent teeth anyway, a dental bridge may be a good option. If not, it really is just a matter of your personal preference.
Dental Bonding
If you have a minor tooth defect, such as small gaps, chips, or discolorations, dental bonding is an efficient and beautiful solution. The bonding material looks like your tooth enamel and is strong enough to withstand normal usage.
Restorative Dentistry
Anxious to make fearful patients comfortable, he pursued training in sedation dentistry, enough to be able to become Fellow in the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. He has also studied complex restorative dentistry and the placement and restoration of dental implants.

Root Canal Treatment
The good doctor exceeds my expectations every time. The last time I went to any dentist was 7 years ago and at that time I walked out of a root canal half-way through the procedure. I initially went to Dr. Potts because I have a fear of dentists and hate pain. Initially he showed me the options and I tried one but to be honest, I have not had to use any of the special treatments for the subsequent treatments. He is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and has a gentle way of applying dentistry. I would not hesitate in recommending him to anyone that would ask.

Dentures
Dentures will not be a perfect replacement for your own natural teeth, but if that is the treatment you choose, we will make sure your dentures are both beautiful and functional. In fact, we can custom make your dentures using the Turbyfill style of dentures. They are so natural looking, no one will be able to tell you are wearing dentures.

Tooth Extractions
We will do everything to save your teeth. Sometimes, however, that isn’t possible. When that happens, we’ll need to perform a tooth extraction. We know this type of appointment can be disconcerting, especially for patients with dental anxiety. If this type of treatment makes you uncomfortable, we offer sedation dentistry. Bone Grafting
Hannah has worked with us since 2021. She finds the whole process of dentistry fulfilling and has a goal to become a hygienist. Watching the procedures, including everything from fillings to bone grafting, fascinates her. One of her greatest joys is helping patients feel happy and comfortable with her smile. When she is not working, Hannah loves spending time with her boyfriend and his daughter and their five pets (two dogs and three cats). Their busy home has a son on the way.

When people think of in-office whitening, it is generally Zoom Whitening that comes to mind. The Zoom Whitening light is touted for its ability to help activate the whitening gel. Unfortunately, the light also dries out your teeth. Dr. Potts prefers to use the KÃ¶r Whitening system instead. Your teeth get equally white without any of the side effects.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Her passion for dentistry came from her love of art and her skills in using her hands in a solid scientific discipline. Cosmetic Dentistry has emerged as Dr. Mahmoodâ€™s favorite branch of dentistry because she is able to join art and science to create a beautiful result.
General Dentistry
She speaks fluent Arabic and English and basic French. In her spare time, Dr. Mahmood enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, practicing yoga, and helping those in need. Dr. Mahmood is a member of the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
