Dental Examination
X-rays
These television monitors are found next to every patient chair. Patients can watch a movie or TV show. Patients can also view their dental x-rays when speaking to the doctor about the findings for a better understanding of their oral health.

Teeth Cleaning
Regular cleanings help keep gums healthy and teeth cavity-free. A dental cleaning includes removal of tartar and plaque and polishing of the teeth to remove stains and prevent further buildup of plaque.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is a natural substance that helps strengthen teeth and prevent decay. Fluoride treatments are administered at this office as an important component of pediatric dental treatment. The fluoride is applied to the teeth in a gel, foam, or varnish form.
Dental Sealants
Your child may notice that the tooth feels different because of the new sealant. The teeth and bite will feel normal again in a couple of days. Your child should avoid sticky, crunchy, or hard foods for 1-2 hours following the placement of the sealant.
Space Maintainers
A space maintainer is a metal appliance that is custom-made by your pediatric dentist. Its purpose is to keep the space open to allow the permanent tooth to erupt and come into place. Not every child who loses a baby tooth prematurely to dental decay requires a space maintainer. It is best to have a professional exam with a pediatric dentist to determine if a space maintainer is necessary. Baby teeth play an important role in the development of teeth, jaw bones and muscles and help guide the permanent teeth into position when the baby teeth are lost. If a space is not maintained, then teeth can shift into open space and orthodontic treatment may be needed. There are a few different types of space maintainers. Bilateral space maintainers are usually cemented with bands on the back teeth on both sides of the mouth. The bands are connected by a wire just behind the lower incisors. This can eliminate the need for two unilateral spacers. They are the most useful if there is more than one tooth missing.

Dental Bonding

Pulpotomy
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering cemented to the tooth for the purpose of restoring the tooth to its original shape and function. Crowns are used in pediatric dentistry for various reasons. Crowns are recommended by dentists when it is necessary repair and restore a primary (baby) tooth found to be extensively decayed (has a large cavity), a tooth that have had treatment to its nerve (pulpotomy), a tooth fractured due to trauma, or a primary tooth which has not developed correctly.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canals involve treating decay that is inside of the tooth. If the inside of the tooth, known as the dental pulp, is damaged it will gradually decay if left within the tooth. The pulpotomy involves removing the pulp, cleaning out the root canals, and packing the canals with material that will help restore the tooth until it is time for it to exfoliate (or fall out on its own naturally).

Dentures
A Labial Frenectomy is performed on the tissue that connects the lip to the gums. This may be performed on children or adults to aid with orthodontic treatment or even help with the proper fitting for a denture or appliance.

According to the American Association of Orthodontics, the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. Your child will be evaluated by his or her pediatric dentist who is trained to identify malocclusions and inform you if and when orthodontic treatment is needed for your child. There are many benefits of receiving early orthodontic treatment. Some include preserving space for unerupted teeth, and creating room for crowded or malaligned teeth. In some cases, early orthodontic treatment can reduce the need for tooth removal later on. Our pediatric dentists can perform interceptive orthodontic treatment for your child, and inform you when your child should see an orthodontist.

Braces
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is the treatment of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD). The prefix “myo” means muscle. Orofacial myofunctional disorders involve a variety of postural and functional disorders including sucking habits and inappropriate oral postures or functions of the muscles of the tongue, lips, jaw, and face. A common disorder familiar to the public is “tongue thrust”, where the tongue rests against or between the front or side teeth during swallowing rather than lifting up into the palate (roof of the mouth). Tongue thrusting frequently occurs with a low, forward resting posture of the tongue, with a lips apart posture. Just as the controlled continuous forces of orthodontic appliances (braces) can move teeth, abnormal postures and functions in the oral cavity can contribute to the development of dental malocclusions such as incorrectly positioned teeth, an improper bite relationship or other problems related to oral or facial muscle dysfunction or a malformation of the bones of the dental arches.

Dr. Benjamin Dancygier or “Dr. Ben” as his patients call him, is the founder and CEO of Valley Pediatric Dentistry and has created and developed a practice based on his core beliefs and values. He has been delivering outstanding pediatric dentistry since 1999. He received his undergraduate education from State University of New York at Binghamton, majoring in Biology and his Dental education from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. He completed a general dentistry residency at New York Hospital Queens and then completed a two-year residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx in 1999. Dr. Ben is a Diplomat of The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
