“Trigger finger” sounds like a malady that might affect gunslingers or hunters. In fact, this common condition results in a finger bent as if to pull a trigger. People over 40 years of age with a history of diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis are especially at risk to develop this condition.
Cryotherapy
A. CoolSculpting (Zeltiq, Cryotherapy), was a first generation device that used freezing fat as a method to kill the fat cell. Although this was an exciting breakthrough for the time being, it in no way can compare with the breakthrough of Vanquish.
Medical Weight Loss
Loose upper arm skin is most often related to weight loss, but can also occur as a natural part of the aging process. If you were ever overweight, you more than likely developed heavy upper arms. To accommodate the increased volume of the upper arms, your skin stretched. After weight loss, skin often fails to tighten, and so it sags. The only way to improve this problem is through an arm lift, also called brachioplasty.

A few medical conditions make blepharoplasty more risky. They include thyroid problems such as hypothyroidism and Graves’ disease, dry eye or lack of sufficient tears, high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. A detached retina or glaucoma is also reason for caution; check with your ophthalmologist before you have surgery.

Labiaplasty is the plastic surgical procedure to reduce the size of large or asymmetrical labia minora, which are the flattened folds of skin or “lips” surrounding the entrance to the vagina. Because there is a significant variation in the size or amount of visible tissue in this area, it cannot be said that there is a “normal” amount or size of the labia minora for any woman. This condition may arise through normal developmental processes, or it can appear later in life with aging or due to stretching during childbirth. Age, childbirth, hormones, and sexual intercourse can cause enlarged labia, or it can occur naturally.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL): This technique requires the use of a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. As it passes through the areas of fat, the energy explodes the walls of the fat cells, liquefying the fat. The fat is then removed with the traditional liposuction technique. UAL has been shown to improve the ease and effectiveness of liposuction in fibrous areas of the body, such as the upper back or the enlarged male breast. In general, UAL takes longer to perform than traditional liposuction, and is associated with slightly higher risks; Dr. Concannon rarely utilizes this technique. The heat from the ultrasound device used to liquefy the fat cells may cause injury to the skin or deeper tissues. Also, you should be aware that even though UAL has been performed successfully on several thousand people worldwide, the long-term effects of ultrasound energy on the body are not yet known.
MRI
Diagnosing joint injuries and disease begins with a thorough medical history, physical examination, and usually X-rays. Additional tests such as an MRI, or CT also scan may be needed. Through the arthroscope, a final diagnosis is made which may be more accurate than through “open” surgery or from X-ray studies.

Mammography
Not every area is appropriate for fat injection. Injecting fat into the breast, for example, makes cancer detection via mammography more difficult and is strongly discouraged.
Chemotherapy
A: Chemotherapy does not impact or alter the plans for breast reconstruction. Because the woman’s white blood cells (and ability to fight infection) are diminished during the course of chemotherapy, I prefer to limit injections or other elective procedures until the chemotherapy is completed. Usually, Chemotherapy does not commence until several weeks after the mastectomy; we are usually well on our way with the reconstructive process by then. Radiation Therapy
A: The physicians often do have a good idea preoperatively that radiation therapy might be necessary; but cannot be completely sure until after the tissue is examined by a pathologist. The pathologist is the physician who examines the tumor and breast under the microscope. For example, if there is evidence of spread of the cancer to the lymph nodes, or if it appears that the tumor extended down to the muscle under the breast, it may be an indication for radiation therapy. This information will not be available for about a week after surgery.

General Surgery
The first patient interview is typically arranged as a referral by one of my general surgery colleagues who has made the diagnosis of breast cancer. I usually start this interview by making the following 2 points...
Arthroscopy
The word arthroscopy comes from two Greek words, “arthro” (joint) and “skopein” (to look). The term literally means “to look within the joint.” In an arthroscopic examination, a surgeon makes a small incision in the patient’s skin and then inserts pencil-sized instruments that contain a small lens and lighting system to magnify and illuminate the structures inside the joint. Light is transmitted through fiber optics to the end of the arthroscope that is inserted into the joint. By attaching the arthroscope to a miniature television camera, the surgeon is able to see the interior of the joint through this very small incision rather than a large incision needed for surgery.
Joint Replacement
Most people are familiar with joint replacement surgery for the hip, knee, and shoulder joints. Joint replacement surgery in the wrist is less common but can be an option if you have painful arthritis that does not respond to other treatments.
Ear Surgery
For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and 14. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient.
Hand Surgery
The field of hand surgery deals with both surgical and non-surgical treatment of conditions and problems that may take place in the hand or upper extremity (from the tip of the hand to the shoulder). Arthroscopy
When indicated, corrective surgery is performed with specially-designed instruments that are inserted into the joint through accessory incisions. Initially, arthroscopy was simply a diagnostic tool for planning standard open surgery. With development of better instrumentation and surgical techniques, many conditions can be treated arthroscopically, such as a tear in the TFCC (a supporting ligament of the wrist that is a common cause of wrist pain).
Knee Replacement
A wrist joint replacement can be done as an outpatient procedure, unlike a hip or knee replacement. Wrist replacement surgery is often combined with other procedures to correct deformities or disorders in the tendons, nerves, and small joints of the fingers and thumb.
Reconstructive Surgery
After years of planning, Dr. Concannon opened his private Surgical Center in Spring 2007. His vision was to create a non-institutional environment for performing cost-effective outpatient plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures. Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, technically known as reduction mammaplasty, is designed for such women. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The goal is to give the woman smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body.
Breast Lift
Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman’s breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Rhinoplasty
After your information is reviewed, you are escorted to our consultation room where you will meet Dr. Matthew Concannon. Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is a process. It is not accomplished in a single operation or procedure. Typically the process takes approximately 12 months to complete. Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, either under general anesthesia if extensive dissection will be required, or IV sedation in our office operating room suite. The area is marked prior to surgery while the patient is in a standing position. The procedure generally takes approximately two to three hours, depending on the patient and what is needed. Deep sutures are used to close any incisions, which will dissolve within four months. It is important for a patient to have someone helping them get home after the surgery and if possible, to help for a couple of days afterward.
Face Lift
The male cervicoplasty is done by directly excising the redundant skin, and tightening the underlying muscles of the neck (platysma). This can be done under local anesthesia in the clinic procedure room, and the recovery time is relatively short. Other options for this condition can include a standard facelift, but this is a much more involved procedure which can place visible scars on the cheek or around the ears, and can alter the growth of sideburn hair. The main drawback to the cervicoplasty pictured here is also the externally visible scars (although they are placed on the neck). These scars are typically very well tolerated.

Blepharoplasty can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr Concannon.
Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a “tummy tuck,” is a major surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdomen wall. The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. But bear in mind, it does produce a permanent scar, which, depending on the extent of the original problem and the surgery required to correct it, can extend from hip to hip. Schedule A Consultation

Scar Revision
Surgical scar revision – surgical scar revision is most effective when there is a specific reason that the scar healed poorly in the first place such as wound separation, infection or tension. Generally wait at least 6-12 months after surgery
Body Contouring
A. Vanquish is a revolutionary treatment in non-invasive body sculpting, and the closest treatment to surgical results. Vanquish’s unique design allows treatment of large areas at one time, making it the largest treatment area in the industry. It is the first no contact, hands free body contouring devise, making it consistent, and little room for human error. This larger treatment area helps to speed up treatment time and make treatments easier to treat multiple areas at once. Vanquish shows the fastest results in permanent fat reduction, with patients may see results as quickly as after their first treatment. Of 25 patients studied in a recent study, all had visible results after the first treatment and, after the full course of four sessions, 59 percent of abdominal fat was destroyed.
Laser Resurfacing
Mild skin resurfacing removes dead and damaged skin cells, as well as encouraging the formation of new ones. Aggressive procedures actually cause microscopic, controlled “injury” to skin layers. It is not enough injury to cause scarring or harm, but it triggers a healing response that can stimulate collagen development as well as eliminate deep-down damage. This is the strategy behind Laser resurfacing in general.
Gynecomastia
Shame. Humiliation. Insecurity. These are some of the emotions experienced by men with enlarged breasts, or gynecomastia. About half of all men today have excess localized fat and/or excess glandular tissue in one or both breasts. Gynecomastia accounts for more than 65 percent of all male breast disorders, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Schedule A Consultation
Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic surgery can be used to enhance appearance and self-esteem. But it can also be used to enhance function. For some women, having enlarged inner genital lips (labia minora) can be functionally or emotionally bothersome. Local irritation and problems with personal hygiene can interfere with sexual intercourse and cause discomfort during other activities like cycling, walking or sitting. A common complaint is that labia are protruded, which can be very uncomfortable. It is not uncommon for labia to rub on underwear, which can be painful particularly after some time wearing pants. Women in this situation often lack self-confidence in relationships, because their labia “hang down” when they are naked. Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that offers women a solution to these issues.
Dermabrasion
Prior to the advent of clincal Lasers, skin resurfacing was also done by “sanding down” the skin using a wire brush or a diamond-coated wheel. This dermabrasion was technically demanding and had a significant risk of side effects, such as scarring, or incomplete resolution of the wrinkles. When the CO2 laser was developed, it replaced dermabrasion because it was easier to perform and safer. However, there were still long healing times and sometimes permanent lightening of the skin.To reduce these problems there has been a move, over the years, to try to obtain similar results in a safer and more reproducible fashion. Lasers were the obvious solution, and for a number of years the CO2 laser was the best tool that we had. With time, lasers with an even better side-effect profile were developed, and currently the CO2 laser is used infrequently by most physicians.
Bariatric Surgery
Following significant weight loss due to a bariatric surgery (also known as gastric bypass surgery, stomach stapling, weight loss surgery, and obesity surgery) a person can be left with a tremendous amount of excess hanging skin throughout many areas of the body that cannot shrink back to the person’s new body shape. Women and men often elect to have various cosmetic procedures to help them achieve the body shape that they seek. Due in part to the lack of elasticity of the remaining skin, excessive amounts of skin can accumulate and hang in various areas, including the face, neck, breasts, upper and lower abdomen, flanks, armpit (axilla), back, buttocks, arms, and thighs. Besides being physically undesirable, this excess skin can cause hygienic problems, skin irritation, skin breakdown and pain, and can lead to problems in finding clothes that can fit properly.

Lesions
A broad spectrum of light is transmitted through a small, smooth, transparent handpiece which is gently placed over the skin. Cut-off filters in the handpiece change the wavelength range allowing it to be optimized for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions damaging them. The body’s natural processes then remove the injured tissue giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.
Chemical Peels
Hypopigmentation: Skin treated with ablative lasers can lose their natural pigment. This is NOT to be confused with the obliteration of dark age spots/sun spots and the natural sun bronzing that occurs with aging. One needs only to look at the sun protected areas (ie, gluteal area) to see the natural color of their skin. However, if true skin pigment is lost, the skin can appear unnaturally light. This was very common with CO2 laser, and also with phenol chemical peels, which is one reason why we no longer utilize it. Erbium has replaced CO2 in our practice. Although hypopigmentation may occur with aggressive Erbium resurfacing, it is much less common and less severe than with previous methods such as CO2. Fractional ablative resurfacing produces extremely rare hypopigmentation.

After years of sun worshipping combined with surgical menopause and reaching the age of 47, I looked old. The skin on my face was dull and very discolored with fine lines everywhere. I tried numerous products with little success. By chance, I had a casual conversation with Dr. Concannon who recommended a consult with Trista and use of Obagi products followed by a peel. Trista was great! After a couple of weeks using the Obagi skin care system, I begin to see real changes in my skin. My face was softer and actually looked and felt fresh. The fine lines were diminishing too. Trista stayed in contact with me weekly checking on my progress. Finally, in early February I underwent the Blue Peel with Dr. Concannon and Trista in attendance. The whole process was easy and I had little to no discomfort. In fact, I attended a ball a week later with many compliments. The personal attention by Dr. Concannon and his staff with phone calls and follow up before and after the peel kept me motivated and confident. Results were great!!! My family who was nervous and hesitant about the peel process continue to make comments on how great my skin looks. My care was totally individualized to my needs and I can’t thank Dr. Concannon, Trista, and staff enough for their time, concern, and professionalism.
