Jasper Humane Society

I had the WORST experience at Walker County Humane Society. I don't know how things are now at WCHS, but about 3-4 years ago a friend and I were looking for a no-kill shelter to take some abandoned kittens to and when she called she was told by a young man that they DO NOT put the animals down. So we drove over an hour looking for this place – using up our time, gas, & money. The first thing you see when you walk in is a sign reading that 75% of the animals that are brought in ARE put down. Well, while I was reading the sign, my friend started bawling because the hideous girl behind the counter very nastily stated, "Well, I guess we're going to have to KILL something else to make room for THESE." I don't know the girls name behind the counter but she had zero personality and zero people skills. The entire time we were there she did nothing but complain. When I asked for the kittens to be returned to us, this girl had the audacity to gripe about it while walking down the hallway, then turned around and said that "next time you need to be sure." Well, after dealing with the likes of her, there was never going to be a NEXT TIME. This witch had the most haughty, condescending tone of anybody I have ever met. So I became loud with her because of her repugnant, ignorant attitude and she had the nerve to say, “Well, you don't have to be rude to me.” –UH, EXCUSE YOU. DON'T DISH IT OUT IF YOU CAN'T TAKE IT – anyway, that was when the vet decided to come out and make excuses about how they were lacking this & that. I really understand that, but guess what… I don't care what you do or don't have to work with; being rude & belligerent like the cow behind the counter was being is not necessary.

If WCHS was actually interested in selling the cats & dogs that are in their unfortunate care, they would lower the prices, which at that time was $85 (MORE than the B’ham Humane Society’s) and get rid of the troll behind the counter who was nothing more than counterproductive and probably drove people away with her disgusting, malicious attitude. Hopefully that girl is no longer there, but if she is, it would be in WCHS best interest to have someone else work the front counter that has compassion and understanding which might help more of the animals become adopted rather than drive away potential owners.
