Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation, formerly known as Florida Steel Products, is one of the largest, minimill steel producing companies in North America. Established in 1937, it has an annual capacity to manufacture more than 12 million tons of mill-finished steel products. The company maintains a network of over 80 steel scrap recycling facilities and downstream operations. Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation serves original equipment manufacturers and steel producers and service centers throughout the United States and Canada. Its products are used in infrastructure, commercial, metal building, manufacturing, automotive, mining, cellular and electrical transmission, and industrial and residential construction applications. The company also supplies merchant bars, nails, railroad spikes, structural shapes and pilings. Its customer base includes contractors, reinforcing steel fabricators, metal manufacturers, railroad builders, building material dealers and steel joist producers. Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation has achieved the Recycler of the Year Award from the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA).
