Recognizing that dental care is an often neglected aspect of dog and cat health care, Clarke County Animal Hospital has a complete dental package that includes...
Vaccination
For participants in the Clarke County Animal Hospital Wellness Program, any vaccinations due at the time of the annual exam will be given at current participant rates. Patients with health-related concerns will be recommended more advanced diagnostics when needed. More frequent re-evaluations will most-likely become necessary for those pets with ongoing illnesses.
Nutritional Counseling
It is always important to call Clarke County Animal Hospital immediately for an appointment when your pet exhibits a change in behavior or sudden weight gain or loss.
Comprehensive Examination
The in-house diagnostic capability at Clarke County Animal Hospital provides pet owners in the Grove Hill, Jackson, and Thomasville areas of Alabama with on-site routine testing of blood chemistry to determine the overall health of your pet. Our pets cannot communicate when something is wrong, in fact, they instinctively hide their abnormalities. Diagnostic tests can help discover a condition that may not be detectable during a regular physical examination.

Clarke County Animal Hospital offers pet owners in Grove Hill, Jackson, and Thomasville, Alabama laser therapy for your pets. Laser therapy is a non-invasive, pain-free, surgery-free, drug-free treatment that provides pain relief, helps heal certain skin issues, and helps reduce recovery time after surgery.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
The constant scratching along with hair loss, dandruff, bad skin odor, and changes in skin, coat color and texture are all associated with dermatological issues. If you notice your pet experiencing any of these symptoms, don’t just ignore it and think that the problem will go away. Irritation of the skin is typically caused by an allergic reaction to something in the immediate environment. Food allergies, fleas, and substances in their location such as dust, pollen, and grass are just some of the possible triggers for skin conditions. Other causes of itching may be an infestation of microscopic parasites such as mites causing sarcoptic mange, or demodectic mange.
Dogs and cats thrive when they are fed a healthy, balanced diet. Currently, however, pet obesity is huge problem in the United States. When pets are overweight, it creates a tendency towards diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, and other chronic health conditions. Using our nutritional counseling services at Clarke County Animal Hospital will help simplify just what your pet should be eating and how much.

Kidney Disease Treatment
Ultrasounds can be used to diagnose pancreatitis, liver disease, kidney disease, and cardiac function. An abdominal ultrasound is most often used to locate bladder and kidney stones, abdominal masses, as well as to evaluate pregnancies.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Periodontal disease is one of the most insidious, expensive and frequently noted problems that we deal with. Although dogs are very stoic about pain in most cases, periodontal infections, tooth fractures, and oral masses are common and preventable sources of major discomfort for your pet.
Cancer Treatment
In addition to allergies and parasites, animals are susceptible to a variety of skin disorders including bacterial and fungal infections, hereditary and congenital diseases, chronic ear infections, diseases of the feet, footpads and nails, autoimmune skin diseases, endocrine (hormonal) disorders, and skin cancer.
Preventative veterinary dentistry can identify, diagnose and prevent progression of periodontal disease. Annual oral exams and cleanings, together with at home preventative care, can help to prevent disease as well as save money by preventing the need for oral surgery, extractions, and other costly last resort procedures.

Spaying and Neutering
Spaying or neutering age depends on breed (larger breeds wait longer) and recommendations for each specific animal. Your pet will be given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.
Bloodwork is a wonderful way to identify disease processes early and prevent the progression of chronic disease. We recommend annual bloodwork to provide a baseline for our veterinarian to identify trends and specific areas to focus on in an effort to prolong the duration and quality of life of our patients. Whether your pet is a youngster or a senior, regular blood work can help detect some diseases early. It is always easier to catch a potential problem early on to avoid complications and expensive treatments.
X-Ray
An important diagnostic tool that we use here at Clarke County Animal Hospital is digital radiography. This in-house radiography capability enables us to safely and quickly assess the status of injuries or disease that may be affecting your pet. It can be extremely beneficial in helping our veterinarian diagnose fractures, locate objects your pet may have swallowed, discover masses such as tumors, measure organ size for disease, diagnose pneumonia, discover pregnancies, bladder stones, chronic arthritis, and certain spinal cord diseases.

Microchipping
Each year thousands of pets go missing, and many of them never make it back home to their loving owners. Clarke County Animal Hospital wants to help you keep track of your pet and make it easier to find them should the unthinkable happen and you get separated. Many pets get lost and are never returned to their owners because collars and tags can unexpectedly fall off or become damaged or unreadable. If you choose to have your pet microchipped, you don’t have to worry about a mishap such as this, since microchipping is a method of providing permanent identification for your four-legged friend that is reliable, and can’t get lost, stolen, or damaged.
Clarke County Animal Hospital is pleased to offer our clients private animal boarding in our state-of-the-art facility. Let your pet vacation with us next time you're out of town!
