Glaucoma
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world, according to the World Health Organization. It is the leading cause of blindness among African Americans. It is estimated that over 4 million Americans have glaucoma but only half of those know they have it. For this very reason, glaucoma screening is a very important service that we offer at Barrett Eye Care. Our doctors have treated thousands of glaucoma patients and screened many, many more patients for glaucoma. If you are African American or if you have a family history of glaucoma, you should routinely get screened for the disease.
Ophthalmology
Barrett Eye Care was founded by Dr. Erik Barrett. Our first office was opened in Fishers, Indiana on Allisonville Road on November 1st, 2004. In 2011, we acquired another practice from Dr. Elliott Yolles. That practice is currently located in Carmel, Indiana on Meridian Street, just south of 116th street. Macular Degeneration
At Barrett Eye Care we pride ourselves on being a full service, comprehensive, ophthalmology clinic. We are equipped to handle the full spectrum of eye problems ranging from complex medical eye diseases to routine eye exams. We also provide diabetic eye exams, glaucoma screening exams and macular degeneration evaluations.
Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK or laser vision correction is one of the safest and most commonly performed surgical procedures in the United States today. We are achieving outstanding results and our patients are among some of the most satisfied LASIK patients around. If you are interested in becoming less dependent on glasses or contact lenses, please give us a call to schedule your FREE LASIK CONSULTATION. Dr. Barrett will help you determine if LASIK laser vision correction is right for you.
Cataracts
This package involves both cataract removal and refractive correction. With this procedure, Dr. Barrett will remove the natural, cloudy lens in the eye and replace it with a new, synthetic intraocular lens. Dr. Barrett will also use other tools (ORA wavefront aberrometer), techniques (limbal relaxing incisions) and astigmatism-correcting lenses (toric lenses) to further correct your refractive error. With this option, a very high percentage of our patients (over 95%) will not need glasses for distance vision. However, you will need readers/cheaters for reading and near tasks. With this package, you also have the option of either near correction or mono-vision. If you choose near correction, you will have excellent near vision without glasses but you will need glasses for distance vision. With mono-vision correction, we will correct one eye for distance and the other eye for reading.
Cataract Surgery
We provide routine and deluxe cataract surgery to help our patients see better and become less dependent on glasses.
Eye Exam
Eye exam, we can provide you with a prescription for contact lenses, or we can order the lenses for you and have them shipped directly to your house. If you have not worn contact lenses in the past, we offer contact lens training sessions which teach our first-time contact lens wearers how to properly take the lenses in and out of their eyes. We have a very high success rate in fitting our patients in contact lenses for the first time.

Diabetic Retinopathy
According to the International Diabetes Foundation, diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of vision loss in adults of working age (20 to 65 years) in industrialized countries. It is estimated that more than 2.5 million people worldwide are affected by it. 74 percent of people who have diabetes for 10 years or more will develop some form of diabetic retinopathy. Yearly diabetic eye exams are crucial for the early detection and treatment of diabetic eye disease. At Barrett Eye Care, we have performed thousands of diabetic eye exams which have led to early detection and treatment of many patients across central Indiana.

Ultrasound
This is an exciting time in many areas ophthalmology and cataract surgery is no exception. Today’s cataract surgeries are performed with small incisions that do not even require stitches. High speed ultrasound is used to remove the cataracts and the procedure typically only takes 10-15 minutes. At Barrett Eye Care we use all of the latest and most innovative technology to help ensure that your surgery is a successful one. Two, new, deluxe lenses were recently approved by the FDA. These lenses give our patients a choice of the type of vision they would like to have following cataract surgery.

General Surgery
Dr. Brumbaugh has been in practice for over 30 years. He has recently merged his practice with Barrett Eye Care. You will find that their way of patient care is much in line with Dr. Brumbaugh’s. Graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics, he went on to IU’s Medical School and completed an internship in general surgery and residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Brumbaugh is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as the American Medical Association. He is involved in state and local medical and ophthalmology societies and is a past president of the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology.

Eyelid Surgery
Dr. Barrett is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Indiana State Medical Association. He is certified on both the Wavelight Ex500 Excimer Laser and the Wavelight FS200 Femtosecond Laser. Over the past 12 years, Dr. Barrett has provided care for over thirty thousand patients throughout central Indiana. He has performed over eight thousand ophthalmic surgeries since graduating from medical school in 2000. His specialty areas of expertise include Femtosecond LASIK, PRK, deluxe cataract surgery and eyelid surgery. Dr. Barrett also has an appointment as a Volunteer Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
