Your veterinarian might have recommended pet rehabilitation therapy for any number of reasons; post-surgery, post-trauma, for weight loss or exercise. MASH has the personnel, equipment and modern techniques any pro locker room or international athlete would be proud to use...but it is reserved for your pet under your own vet’s referral.
Comprehensive Examination
A veterinary technician will soon be in to introduce themselves to you and your pet and will obtain a brief patient history and recording of your pet’s vital signs. The surgeon will review your pet’s information and history, meet with you to clarify any details, answer your specific questions, and conduct a thorough physical examination of your pet. You will then be presented you with a detailed verbal and written assessment of your pet’s condition along with the proposed diagnostics, management options, designated treatment plan, risk factors and complications associated with surgical v. non-surgical treatment options, and expected prognosis.

After initial consultation, therapy services may include manual therapy for improved range of motion, alignment and pain relief. We may also include one of our many unique services listed below. For every patient, we always create a comprehensive home exercise program which involves you - your pet’s most important care giver.

I was away from home visiting and a friend recommended M.A.S.H. because she had taken her dog there for treatment. I called on a Saturday morning and was given an appointment right away. They treated Rico for the bacterial infection that initially brought us in and recommended that I make an appointment to bring him back to the surgery center because all the upset aggravated a perineal hernia which my dog had for awhile.

Ultrasound therapy for pets is useful post-surgery or can be used to treat chronic conditions such as degenerative joint disease, hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, bursitis or tendonitis.

With an in-house lab, fully equipped with high-quality diagnostic testing and imaging machines, APVES is able to provide a rapid turnaround of results for blood tests, digital radiology, and ultrasound results. Critical patients are closely monitored with continuous EKGs, non-invasive blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry for efficiency of respiration (tissue oxygen saturation) measurement, and other advanced procedures.
Kidney Disease Treatment
The experience we have had with MASH/APVES has been phenomenal. We live in a very rural area, Calvert County, and to have such expert services for our pets is incredible. Our American Cocker Spaniel was diagnosed with kidney disease, and in the stages of renal failure, at the young age of 7 by our veterinarian. They referred me to Dr. Bechtold of APVES as she has extensive experience managing kidney disease in small animals. This diagnosis happened the day we were leaving for our 10 day trip to Europe. We were not ready to put Tinkerbell down. APVES and Dr. Bechtold, in particular, knew exactly how to treat Tinkerbell and communicated with us via phone call and email of her progress while we were away. Since this diagnosis and treatment Tinkerbell is doing well and visits on occasion with Dr. Bechtold. Her renal values are stabilized and enjoying a quality of life. Thank You!!

We do not offer a billing service; a deposit equal to 50% of the high end of the fee estimate is required at the time of admission to the hospital and the full balance is due at the time of discharge. Options for payment include cash, credit card (American Express, VISA, MC, Discover, and CareCreditTM ). Recheck appointments for radiographs, bandage changes, blood tests, etc. will usually incur additional charges.
