General Info
The Pennsylvania Game Commission was created by the State Legislature to protect and conserve wildlife. It works to manage wildlife resources for residents with the help of more than 700 full-time employees and various part-time volunteers. The commission is funded by state game lands timber, mineral and oil revenues, and a federal excise tax on sporting arms and ammunition. The Pennsylvania Game Commission monitors wildlife populations, establishes laws and regulations, sets seasons and bag limits, makes habitat improvements and provides outright protection. It also informs and educates the public through various wildlife conservation programs. The commission enforces hunting and trapping laws to protect wildlife, conducts wildlife surveys, assists in wildlife research projects and offers wildlife management training.
