The Honolulu Festival is Hawaii's principle arts and cultural heritage event. Held across three days in March, Friday-Sunday, events include traditional performances of dance and music, art demonstrations, educational workshops, and food and craft booths. The overarching theme of the festival is to promote harmony and understanding between the people of Hawaii and the rest of the Pacific region, meaning that most activities are both free and widely accessible, which prompts thousands of visitors to participate each year. The Festival ends in a massive parade in Waikiki, down Kalakaua Avenue, which draws out crowds to see the fantastic floats with their costumed riders and pyrotechnics. Often, there are even fireworks.
