Dr. Leo Damasco is a dual residency trained military physician with a Board Certification in General Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. He received his BA at UCSD and his MD degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
Primary Care
Savannah Klingshirn was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She has an undergraduate degree in exercise physiology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She holds a graduate degree in physician assistant studies from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. She completed PA school and her clinical rotations in multiple states. After graduation, boards, a medical mission trip to Honduras, and some personal traveling, she accepted a temporary position as a primary care provider for our veterans at Iowa City VA Healthcare. After nearly 2 years with TeamHealth, the contract came to an end with the ED in Racine, Wisconsin that had taught her love for emergency medicine. This natural breaking point gave her the opportunity to find a new professional adventure in Hawaii.
Emergency Care
We are contracted by the medical center to staff the emergency department with our physicians. Your bill from The Emergency Group, Inc. is for emergency physician services only and is separate from The Queen's Medical Center. You may receive a separate bill from Queen's and/or other physicians who were involved in your care.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Brandi Gary received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Washington and is fluent in Spanish. She attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After earning her Doctor of Medicine, she completed residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She then worked in New York City prior to moving to Oahu. Dr. Gary is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Gary joined The Emergency Group, Inc. (TEG) in March 2014 and served for over a year as the Emergency Department Assistant Chief at The Queen’s Medical Center – West O’ahu. Her special interests include Global Health and Tropical Medicine, and she has traveled as a medical student, volunteer physician or invited lecturer to countries such as Bolivia, Mexico, Argentina, Haiti and Kenya.

Orthopedics
Dr. Hessam Afshari earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He continued his studies at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he conducted research in Orthopedics. He also received a Graduate Certificate in Disaster Preparedness from Penn State Hershey Medical Center College of Medicine. Dr. Afshari received his Doctor of Medicine from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center - a Level 1 Pediatric and Adult Trauma Center. He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Afshari joined The Emergency Group, Inc. (TEG) in 2013 and has taken a leadership role in working with fellow physicians to study ways to improve the patient experience at the Queen's Medical Center Emergency Department. A member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Afshari is also an experienced instructor of Advanced Trauma Life Support.
Wound Care
Dr. Ajay Bhatt has been with The Emergency Group, Inc. since August 2010. He received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics from the Illinois Institute of Technology and his Doctor of Medicine from the Chicago Medical School. He completed is residency in Emergency Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He also completed his Medical Education Fellowship at John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) in 2011. In addition to Emergency Medicine, Dr. Bhatt has an interest in Medical Education and Wound Care. He has been active with the SimiTiki Simulation Center at JABSOM and is the Medical Director of the Wound & Hyperbaric Centers for The Queen’s Health Systems. Dr. Bhatt has been active in various charitable organizations to assist children and adults in India and other countries. He was a co-founder of MedicIndia which provided medical students an opportunity to provide social services and experience urban and tribal medicine in Gujarat, India. His other interests include soccer, tennis, and hiking.
Orthopedic Surgery
Macy Roderick received her Bachelors of Biology and Masters of Physician Assistant Studies at Nova Southeastern University in 2021. She is furthering her education and currently working on her Doctorate of Medical Science degree at University of Lynchburg and will be done at the end of 2023. Her previous PA-C experience includes orthopedic surgery for just under two years. She joined The Emergency Group Inc. in July of 2023.
