General Info
Ratee offers the most authentic home cooked southern Thai in the Richmond area. We are a family owned and operated establishment specializing in authentic southern thai cuisine. Come and experience it for yourself. Read a recent review from yelp. Ventured here one night after browsing Yelp and seeing this listed under one of the new restaurants. Plus they have 30% off your order until February 15th. And you know me; I can't resist a Thai place. It was a little hard to find. Using the address listed here, it sent me in a weird direction, but FYI: you can just use the "9047". This place is right next to Teppanyaki Buffet, Food Lion, Yen Ching, etc. on West Broad St. Walking in, the place looks nice. There are tables with chairs and also additional seating with tables and benches on a raised platform. Not sure how many people you could actually seat in here with this set up, but it does make it unique. The person that I talked to was very nice. Gave me time to look over the menu and I decided to get the spring rolls as well as fresh rolls. Also the pad thai and panang curry with chicken. When I went there was no tofu option, but I didn't ask about it, so I'm not sure if that will change at any point. Got the order to go and was told to I was welcome to sit and it would be ten minutes. Food came out promptly and I was in and out of there quickly. When I got home the food was still warm. Spring rolls were fine; probably a step up from some other places, but it wouldn't be something I absolutely had to order. Fresh rolls said they came with an order of four- but it's really just two cut into halves (so if you have a large party that wants to share, go ahead and take that into consideration). The pad thai was a darker color than I am used it was brown, but it tasted fine and the right flavors were there. Still not as good as my favorite pad thai, but I wasn't disappointed. I wanted to save the curry, but I did take a couple bites of it to see how it was. It came in a larger plastic container than I thought it would. Rice came in a small styrofoam box, so if you're one of those people that likes your rice, you're going to possibly want to order extra. While this curry was of a medium consistency (less thick than Thai flavor, more thick than Ruangtong) it was rich and peanuty and the standard hotness (aka: I didn't ask them to spice it up) has a little more depth and kick to it than Thai Flavor (which will be one of their major competitors, being a short drive away). I was happy with the curry. And it reheated fine (though I'd recommend reheating via stove top rather than microwave, if you have that option). I went back another time and tried their satay and pad see ew. Both were good. The peanut satay sauce is thick and slightly spicy and the pad see ew served with Chinese broccoli
