Ear Infections
Your veterinarian will examine your pet from nose to tail, looking for things like heart murmurs, ear infections, and/or parasites. Your veterinarian can also provide pet-proofing tips, training assistance, and parasite protection recommendations.

Health Check – the first thing your new puppy needs is an exam by your veterinarian. Your vet will recommend testing, vaccination, and other things, as well as identify problems. Checking a new puppy for hernias and other congenital defects as well as infectious diseases, mange, and other problems is important so that problems can be identified and treated early

Glaucoma
This non-invasive diagnostic test measures the intraocular pressure inside your pet’s eye and is used to test for glaucoma and uveitis. Increased pressure in your pet’s eye can be dangerous and tonometry is an easy way to check the pressure without having to sedate your pet.

Our veterinarians are experienced in various soft tissue pet surgeries, the most routinely performed procedures being spay/neuters and mass/tumor removals. Other examples of veterinary soft tissue surgeries include intestinal foreign body removal, laceration and wound repair, eye surgery, perineal urethrostomy, mastectomy, splenectomy, and other specialized surgeries.

Dogs and cats have eyes very similar in structure to ours. Like us, they have a lens to help them focus. The lens is normally a clear disc suspended just behind the pupil. When the fibers in the lens are disrupted, the lens appears white or looks like crushed ice, which means it has developed a cataract.

Using sound waves, ultrasound technology allows us to generate images of your pet’s internal body structures, such as muscles, tendons, joints, internal organs, and blood vessels. Ultrasound images are often ordered alongside x-rays, to get a more complete picture of your pet’s health.

Using radiography, we are able to produce high-quality diagnostic images of your pet’s tissues, organs, and bones. X-rays help us look for arthritis, broken bones, foreign objects, dental issues, enlarged organs, or respiratory dysfunction.

I purchased Harker Heights Veterinary Hospital from Dr. Aycock in 1998 and in May 2001 merged with Country Trails Animal Hospital to form Pet Medical Center. I love what I do! We get to do everything here from keeping pets healthy with preventive medicine, to rebuilding broken bones, to treating critical medical cases and even chemotherapy for cancer. It is the most challenging and rewarding job I can imagine. It's actually too much fun to call it work!

Orthopedics
When it comes to orthopedic care, prevention, detection, and treatment of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments are an important and vital part of keeping your pet up, running, and healthy. In addition to a thorough physical exam, we use laboratory tests and radiological findings to determine the cause of your pet’s pain and/or the extent of their injury or illness.
Orthopedic Surgery
We routinely perform orthopedic surgeries, which are procedures related to bones and joints. Common orthopedic pet surgeries include bone fracture repair, cruciate ligament repair, extracapsular and TPLO techniques, leg or toe amputation, patellar luxation repair, and surgeries to treat hip dysplasia, including femoral head ostectomy (FHO).

Dermatology
Itching, scratching, and hot spots are all signs of allergies and skin conditions in pets. Just like humans, pets can be sensitive to irritants that cause them distress. Our team will diagnose and offer treatment for pets with skin-related problems including parasites, allergies, rashes, infections, hair loss, and more. When left untreated, some of these conditions can become serious health concerns.

Allergies
Testing: Atopy testing is generally a blood test or intradermal skin test (injections into the top layer of skin) to determine what environmental factors the pet is allergic to. Allergy tests are specific to the area the pet lives in, and ideally testing is done after the pet has lived in an area for 2 years. Allergy testing must be repeated every 2-3 years since allergies can change over time.
