Prostate Cancer
Usually, where a particular cancer is addressed by surgery in combination with chemotherapy or radiation therapy, we have specialists who focus on rehabilitation from the cancer treatments associated with that particular type of cancer. Examples of our diagnosis-centric programs include Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, Pelvic Cancer Rehabilitation (including ovarian, cervical, testicular, colon and prostate cancer) and Head & Neck Cancer Rehabilitation.
Cancer Care
This commentary article provides a brief history of the emergence of prehabilitation in cancer care delivery. It reviews the current evidence base and guidelines for prehabilitation, and offers insights for future implementation of this model as a standard in oncology care.
Lung Cancer
In addition, we have symptom-centric programs that supplement the our diagnosis-centric treatment plans designed for patients with breast, pelvic or head & neck cancer as well as addressing the rehabilitative needs of a multitude of patients with other cancer diagnoses (for example lung cancer and brain tumors). Our cancer exercise and neurological oncology (neuro-oncology) programs are symptom-centric and help patients with chemo toxicity issues (like cancer related fatigue, chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy, balance, and dizziness), weakness and de-conditioning. Research has shown that cancer exercise programs can mitigate the impact of cancer treatment on the body’s pulmonary system, gastrointestinal, nervous, muscular and circulatory systems.

This study demonstrates that cancer survivors' HRQOL is more often influenced by physical issues than emotional problems. Approximately 1 of 4 cancer survivors reported poor physical health whereas only 1 of 10 reported poor mental health.

Chemotherapy
Oncology Rehab patients with cancer, who struggle with lost peace of mind, find that our yoga program can bring it back. Each patient’s program is designed around a combination of relaxation, centeredness, and low impact exercises, especially for patients going through and recovering from chemotherapy.
Radiation Therapy
Oncology Rehab specializes in rehabilitation for patients who are currently going through, or who have gone through, radiation therapy. Our knowledge and techniques facilitate treatment to any or all areas of the body – the head and neck region, the trunk region, the arms, the pelvic region, and the legs.

Sciatica
Trigger point dry needling, also known as functional dry needling, is a treatment for muscular tightness and spasm which commonly follows injuries and often accompanies the degenerative processes. This muscular tightness and spasm will cause compression and irritation of the nerves exiting the spine. When the nerves are irritated, they cause a protective spasm of all the muscles to which they are connected. This may cause peripheral diagnoses, such as carpel tunnel, sciatica, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, decreased mobility and chronic pain.
Reconstructive Surgery
Speech therapy intervention is crucial for patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation treatment, or surgery. Our Speech Pathologists have dedicated the bulk of their careers to researching and treating swallowing, voice restoration, and cognitive rehabilitation for patients that are about to go through treatment, currently in treatment, or who have finished treatment for cancer. From decreased head and neck range of motion due to radiation, to severe fibrosis, scar bands, and reconstructive surgery complications, our SLPs are able to address patients’ needs with a well-rounded approach and unique skillset.

Breast Surgery
For patients who have undergone all types of cancer surgery and related reconstructive surgeries, Oncology Rehab specializes in post-surgery rehabilitation.

Skin Care
During the intensive phase, the patients are instructed in the individual components of self-management, which may include a skin care regimen, home exercises, self-manual lymph drainage and the application of compression garments for daytime use. In some cases it may be necessary for the patient to apply padded compression bandages for nighttime use. Regular checkups with the physician and the lymphedema therapist during phase two are necessary.

Physical Therapists

Physical Therapy
Complete decongestive therapy (CDT), sometimes referred to as complex decongestive therapy, or combined physical therapy is the internationally recognized “gold standard” treatment system for patients affected by stage 2 or stage 3 lymphedema. Backed by long standing experience, CDT has shown to be safe and effective as the standard therapy for lymphedema. It is listed on the web sites of the American Cancer Society (ACS), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the International Society of Lymphology (ISL) and the National Lymphedema Network (NLN) as the main component in the treatment and management of primary and secondary lymphedema.
Occupational Therapy
Facility-based outpatient rehabilitation centers and p atients treated at these locations will receive care as HealthONE patients. Oncology Rehab will not directly bill patients for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology Services at these locations.
Manual Therapy
Physical touch is an important part of our treatment philosophy at Oncology Rehab. Manual therapy refers to the use of hands on treatment to decrease pain, increase mobility, and improve function. These techniques are aimed at the tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints and are performed by trained, skilled physical, occupational, and speech therapists. These techniques include mobilizations and manipulations to the soft tissues and joints.
