Legal Separation
Unlike in some states, legal separation is not a prerequisite to divorce in Connecticut. Thus it is rare for a party in this state to seek a legal separation. Nevertheless, when a couple is not prepared to make a permanent decision about ending their marriage, see a possibility of reconciliation but also see a need for time apart, a legal separation may a viable alternative to divorce in Connecticut. We can assist clients through the separation process, providing guidance on the changes that come with it, such as taxes, benefits, insurance and other financial matters.
Annulment
While divorce marks the end of a legally valid marriage, an annulment in Connecticut is the end of a marriage that was never valid to begin with. Annulments are available under very specific and limited circumstances. “Buyer’s remorse” or a marriage of short duration are not grounds for annulment. When annulment is an available and advisable course of action, we work to bring the matter to a conclusion as quickly as possible.

Criminal Defense
After leaving the Public Defender’s Office, Reuben practiced for many years with a well-established firm in Norwalk. There he initially concentrated on criminal defense, civil litigation and administrative appeals. In the trial and appellate litigation in which he engaged, his clients included not only individuals but also entities such as the Second Taxing District, South Norwalk Electrical Works Norwalk Hospital, the Honey Hill Care Center and Stew Leonard’s.

His comprehensive background includes representing clients on successful appeal in cases such as Dallaire v. Hsu, 130 Conn. App. 599 (2011); Pena v. Gladstone, 168 Conn. App. 141 (2016) and Southbury Land Trust, Inc. v. Andricovich, 59 Conn. App. 785 (2000).
