The Colorado Department of Public Safety operates Colorado State Patrol Academy, which provides training in the areas of accident reporting, community policing, crime scene documentation, crowd control and firearms safety. The academy also provides training in arrest control and defensive tactics. Colorado State Patrol Academy offers an associate degree course in criminal justice. Its CSP Youth Academy focuses on leadership skills development through team exercises. The academy conducts training for uniformed members in the areas of motor carrier compliance and hazardous materials awareness. The Colorado Department of Public Safety is governed by the State of Colorado.
