The company owns the famous Macanudo brand, which comprises four varieties: Macanudo, the classic cigar; Macanudo Robust, a fuller-bodied variation; Macanudo Maduro, and Macanudo Vintage Cabinet Selection. In the mid-1970s the company purchased the U.S. rights for Partagas cigars, which are produced by the legendary Cifuentes family of Cuba. The company s other acquisitions have included foreign cigar-makers such as Villazon & Company, Cohiba and Bolivar. General Cigar Holdings also owns Culbro Tobacco, which grows, cures, ages and processes Connecticut Shade tobacco on more than 1,100 acres of land in the Connecticut River Valley. The company s other businesses include Club Macanudo, a cigar bar in New York, where General Cigar Holdings also has headquarters.
