Dental Examination
This exam is performed at your initial dental visit and again at your subsequent check-ups. Your dentist and hygienist will determine how frequently that will be. X-rays
We believe in preventative care and know that education is a key factor! That is why we believe in teaching and showing our patients their dental situation. We not only check the overall health of your teeth and gums, we take dental x-rays with all new exams and any time they are necessary. We also perform oral cancer screens at each yearly exam! We know the importance of teaching you the right technique for cleaning and flossing for at home care. By educating us with your medical history, you help us stay informed on your overall health, medications, and illnesses that can impact your dental health.
Oral Cancer Screening
We believe in teaching and showing what your dental situation is, not just telling you. We believe in preventative care and know that education is a key factor! We not only visually check the overall health of your teeth and gums, we also always take x-rays with all new exams and repeat them yearly or when necessary, as well as perform oral cancer screenings at each yearly exam! We know the importance of teaching you the right techniques for brushing and flossing for perfect at home care.

Teeth Cleaning
The in-office dental cleaning, also called a professional dental cleaning, is performed by your team's Registered Dental Hygienist. There are different levels of cleanings that can be performed depending on the level of buildup on your teeth and the condition of your gums. Typically a general dental exam is performed at the same appointment as your in-office cleaning.
Fluoride Treatment
Donâ€™t worry if they cry or seem upset. It is startling to have a stranger in their personal space. Besides, as long as their mouth is open we can get a good quick look. Your childâ€™s visit will also include tips on brushing techniques, a fluoride treatment, and time to answer any questions you may have about your childâ€™s oral health.
Dental Sealants
A thin, clear or white resin that is applied to the biting surfaces of teeth to prevent decay. A sealant is most often applied when a permanent tooth first erupts or comes into a childâ€™s mouth. This is when sealants are needed most because there is a low contamination of bacteria in the grooves of their teeth. It is also important to have sealants applied to your childrenâ€™s teeth due to lack of interest in brushing at a young age.

Fillings
Veneers
Veneers are a thin, custom-made shell of tooth-colored resin, ceramic, or porcelain that are bonded directly to the front side of natural teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can be used to replace lost tooth structure, close spaces, straighten teeth, or change color and/or shape. Like other dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may need to be replaced in the future, but are very durable and will last you many years. Many people choose veneers for cosmetic reasons to have uniform white teeth. They are also used in cases of crooked, misshapen, discolored, or stained teeth, or for those that are too small or large with unwanted or uneven spaces or to cover worn or chipped teeth.
Crowns
Scaling and root planing are procedures that are performed around, below, and under, the gum line, of crowns and roots of affected teeth, to remove bacterial deposits. It is similar to the procedure described above except that the scaling is more extensive and deeper under the gums. The removal of plaque and tartar from the root surfaces is accomplished using scalers or curettes (similar to scalers but with a longer reach) and ultrasonic tools to vibrate the debris off of the tooth and out of the deep pockets. The hygienist will then irrigate the tissue, possibly using an antimicrobial rinse, to remove any residual bacteria and begin the healing process. Many of our patients prefer to have this type of cleaning performed while they are numb.
Bridges
At Family 1st Dental, we offer dental implants as a long-term solution for tooth loss. They are also used to secure partial or complete dentures as well as support for dental bridges.

Restorative dentistry restores the strength and beauty of your smile. Whenever possible, we will preserve your natural teeth. When needed, we can also provide tooth replacement options that are both functional and beautiful.

Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics is the specialty branch of dentistry that focuses on the health and treatment of the nerve tissues of the tooth. Root canal therapy is necessary when a tooth is infected and will not heal on its own. Symptoms that indicate a root canal treatment might be needed include pain when biting or chewing, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, constant aching or discomfort. A root canal treatment may also be needed if the dentist can visualize an abscess at the tip of the root of the tooth. These abscesses may be painful but in some cases they present with no symptoms at all.

Deep Cleaning
Every year our team will check your supporting tissue for signs of gum disease using the small measuring stick, or probe, around each tooth and measuring the space between the tooth and the gum tissue.Â Active gum disease is noted when the pocket depths between the teeth and gums are more than 4mm and/or bleeding occurs.Â If this diagnosis is made your doctor will likely recommend a â€œdeep cleaningâ€ , also known as scaling and root planning, to eliminate the infection and heal the tissues.

Dentures
Practice good oral hygiene â€“ Brush at least twice a day with an ADA approved fluoride toothpaste and toothbrush. Floss daily to remove food debris and plaque from in between the teeth and under the gumline. Brush or use a tongue scraper to clean the tongue and reach the back areas. Replace your toothbrush every 2-3 months. If you wear dentures or removable bridges, leave them out overnight, clean them thoroughly and place them back in your mouth in the morning.

Dental Implants
