Fascial Counterstrain or FCS for short, utilizes diagnostic tender points to identify reflexive muscle guarding in the body. Reflex muscle contractions occur in skeletal muscle, smooth muscle or in the body’s deep fascia structures due to a variety of reasons including trauma, surgery, postural strain, repetitive motion, even in response to an inflammatory diet. This form of reflex muscular tightness, once present, can contribute to a multitude of symptoms and conditions. Some examples include, but are not limited to: acute/chronic musculoskeletal pain in ALL regions of the body, chronic edema, weakness, digestive dysfunction, neuropathies, migraine/non migraine headaches, tachycardia, CRPS, peripheral arterial disease, balance disorders, seizures, tinnitus, post-concussion syndrome and even widespread conditions like fibromyalgia.

Each and everyday I am beyond grateful for the tireless work and commitment from Karen at Tuckey & Associates, who truly has changed my life! After years of suffering from endometriosis and after multiple surgeries, I presented Karen with a complex range of symptoms that gave me daily pain, restricted my physical activity and over a period of time became very mentally exhausting! I knew immediately upon starting a series of cranial counter strain sessions that this was going to be a success. Having tried so so many other “physical therapies” and “myofascial release” I knew this made total sense and it would work. What I didn’t anticipate was the commitment both Karen and I would need to see this through to the end – we persevered for many months. Having not exercised or done any level of physical activity for 2 years, I am now exercising at least 3 times a week and have no limitations. I can 150% give credit to Karen for that HUGE transformation.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Resent research has demonstrated that bone anatomy and function is much more complex than originally thought. Bone can be considered part of the fascial system and responds to mechanical forces by changing its structure, alignment and function (4.) FCS is one of the only manipulation techniques in the world that can address bone dysfunction which is the primary pathophysiology behind tendonitis in all regions of the body and is also the primary residual pain generator in virtually all post-fracture and bone contusion cases. FCS is capable of correcting /reducing bone deformities including kyphosis, scoliosis, tibial varum/valgum and even mild (7mm or less) leg length discrepancies. When combined with neural (nerve) FCS techniques, it can quickly resolve intractable conditions such as TMJ dysfunction, tarsal tunnel syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome and even improve the symptoms of idiopathic peripheral neuropathy.

The patient suffered a compound tibio-fibular fracture and severed 2 of the 3 main arteries of the lower leg. Following metal fixation of the fractures and vascular surgery to repair the arteries, the patient’s ankle blood pressure was found to be insufficient. An additional procedure was performed (femoral stent placement) to increase blood flow; however, only 50% normal pressure was achieved. The attending vascular surgeon felt amputation was a distinct possibility due to the likelihood of tissue breakdown subsequent to poor tissue nutrition.
