According to the American Dental Association, a periodic oral examination including dental radiographs is a recommended part of our long term dental care solution.
X-rays
We understand that some of our patients may be concerned with the frequency and/or cost of the exams and x-rays. Periodic oral exams and dental radiographs (x-rays) help us evaluate your overall dental health as well as diagnose any conditions that may need attention. Without periodic exams and regular dental x-rays, we cannot provide the best care possible to our patients.
An appointment with your dental hygienist is so much more than just a simple ‘’teeth cleaning.’’ Your dental hygienist plays a big role in many aspects of your overall dental health and even general health. At first, a close examination of your health history is taken in order to determine what medical problems you may have. These can be medications, allergies, and past surgeries amongst others. The reason for this is that there are several links between general health and dental health that one may not be aware of. Your dental hygienist will help guide you through all steps you need to take in maintaining your dental hygiene.

Dental Sealants
The American Dental Association cites sealants as an effective weapon in the arsenal against tooth decay. Sealants are a thin coating painted on chewing surfaces of molars and premolars. Dental sealants act as a barrier, protecting your teeth against decay-causing bacteria.

Endodontic treatment is one of the most common procedures. If the dental pulp (containing nerves, arterioles, venules, lymphatic tissue, and fibrous tissue) becomes diseased or injured, endodontic treatment is required to save the tooth. Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infected tooth pulp, which would be otherwise extracted. The pulp is the soft tissue core of the tooth, which contains nerves, blood supply, and connective tissue necessary for tooth health. This is usually caused when bacteria enter the pulp through a deep cavity or failed filling.
Visits to the dentist include more than just “checking teeth.” While patients who wear dentures no longer have to worry about dental decay, they may have concerns with ill-fitting appliances or mouth sores to name a few. Annual visits to the dentist (or sooner if soreness is present) is recommended. During these visits, an oral cancer screening and head and neck exam will be performed as well as an evaluation of the fit or need for replacement of the existing appliances. Regular visits can help you to avoid more complicated problems down the road.
Periodontics is the specialty of dentistry that studies supporting structures of teeth, as well as diseases and conditions that affect them. The supporting tissues are known as the periodontium, which includes the gingiva (gums), alveolar bone, cementum, and periodontal ligament. A periodontist is a dentist specializing in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants.
