Overall

A friend and I were paying for our things, we each had 1 item. My buddy went first. She's 5'9", fairly fit, looks great. The short, 5" 2" black, African/Caribbean accented female cashier took one look at my friend, smiled so sweetly, asked if she'd like to apply for a store card to get 5% off. My buddy declined, saying she already had one. Ok, I went next, TOTALLY expecting the cashier to offer me the same darn thing. I have a median FICO of 810, own my own business, have 2 homes that I rent out. I'd LOVE a Target card. WRONG!, she took one look at me, judged me in 2 seconds from head to toe....I'm overweight, and I guess look lazy as hell to her. The incorrect stereotype of overweight people is that we sit around all day and watch Jerry Springer. The cashier just rang me up, zero eye contact, and handed me my change. The next customer, tall, handsome guy, Dr. Oz type, nice & fit, she smiled all 32 teeth at him and was just about to ask if he'd like a card. I was very disturbed. The weight discrimination was so obvious!!! I asked her quietly why she didn't offer me a card. She stuttered, stammered, swallowed hard stalling to find the lie I would accept. She said, Oh, well, your friend was talking, I didn't want to interrupt." HUH!!!?? My buddy was quiet a s a church mouse! Then she heard how stupid that sounded, and gave me a fake forced grin, saying, "O, uh, um, well, uh, would you like to apply with me now? I mean...uh..." I said ABSOLUTELY NOT NOW!!! I walked out, called the store manager from the pkg. lot. I told her the cashier unfairly judged me, and Carolyn had the coconuts to actually tell me that usually when a customer buys a large amount of things, the cashier is alerted that the customer has funds to spend and could qualify for a store card. I reminded her that both my buddy & I each only bought one item, both under $15, so that kicks that dolphin in the balls. She then threw more spaghetti against the wall to see what would stick, and said, um, well, our cashiers have the discretion to offer a card to whomever they want. Ok, stay neutral Carolyn, no problem.Nowhere near satisfied, I called for a different manager the next day. I got Marcus. He said EVERY cashier is instructed to offer a store card to EVERY customer, and that he would remind ALL staff to do so. That wasn't a good enough answer for me. All staff don't need to be reminded. The short African/Caribbean one needs to be reminded to not judge and discriminate based on a 2 second glance. All chubby folks aren't lazy, jobless slobs with bad credit. Fat doesn't equal non mobile!! I won't be shopping there again. 810 FICO is well above average credit, thank you very much. And hey, I'm not "fat", my fluffiness just overflows, okay?
