Sinusitis
The most difficult thing about chronic sinusitis is adequately identifying it. There are two way to diagnose chronic sinusitis. The first is the initial method, and involves certain criteria based on symptorms. Initial treatments are based on this presumptive diagnosis.
Primary Care
Welcome to my virtual sinus laboratory. If you follow the 3D Sinus Pictures links on the left from top to bottom, you will learn about the inside of your nose and sinuses. These images are from the virtual reality environment that I have created. Its purpose is to help explain sinus and nasal topics to patients, primary care physicians, and specialists. In my lectures, participants wear polarized glasses to decode the 3D images from special projectors, giving a true 3D stereoscopic experience.

Doctors should be careful to avoid saying things like "Well, your sinuses are clear, you don't really have sinus headaches." I would propose that just because a scan or exam is normal, that doesn't rule out the sinuses are a source of the pain. As a thought experiment, consider that in most cases of "head" headaches, the MRI scan of the brain is normal, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any pain. It is still the most reasonable route to treat this problem like a "head" headache.
Radiology
The original shapes were obtained by using high resolution CT scans and using ITK Snap, a research radiology program that helps "segment" individual structures in CT scans and MRIs. The spacially accurate initial models were brought into ZBrush, the industry standard organic modeling and sculpting program. Here they wered formatted into modern models with multiple resolution layers, displacement maps, UV Maps, and textures. The completed textured models were then brought into 3D Studio Max for animation and rendering using V Ray rendering engine. My workstation is a fairly robust 10 core overcloced i7 workstation with multiple monitors and high end graphics card. One of my monitors is the 55 inch 4K LG 3D TV, which is used to preview and tune the 3D effects.

Basic Sinus Anatomy is examined using 3D computer models, cadaver dissections, and CT scans. The anatomy of the maxillary sinus, frontal sinus, ethmoid sinuses, and sphenoid sinus are explored and explained in simple terms.

2) The next most obvious situation is called a fungus ball. It usually presents as one sinus, usually the maxillary, with a ball of fungal hyphae, not invasive and with minimal inflammatory response. The symptoms are varied, usually not severe, and the treatment is removal of the fungus ball. This is fairly common and usually happens in just one sinus.

Allergies
Allergists are trained to test for what you are allergic to and treat these with medicines or "allergy shots". If your problems are frequent or severe, and if you aren't entirely positive that the problem is all allergy, I recommend that you see an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. I refer patients to the Allergist when allergy testing and allergy-shots are appropriate.
