Danielle began her medical career in 2012 in the billing department for a Urology office. After the birth of her daughter in 2014, she started working at Hunterdon Otolaryngology and Allergy Associates in the billing department. When a position in the Audiology department opened in 2019, she attended the Certificate Program for Otolaryngology Personnel (CPOP) and moved from the billing department to The Doctors’ Hearing Center at Hunterdon Otolaryngology and Allergy. She has an Associate Degree in liberal arts from Sussex County Community College. She is the friendly voice you will hear when you call to schedule an appointment or need an adjustment for you hearing aids, and she performs audiological testing for patients.
Endoscopy
Common symptoms of sinonasal problems include congestion or nasal stuffiness, mucous drainage, headaches and pressure in the cheeks, forehead or around the eyes. These symptoms can result from chronic sinus infection, nasal inflammation and allergies. A thorough examination including endoscopy assists with appropriate diagnosis and allows us to select the best treatment options. Additional tests including cultures and CT scanning may be indicated. A variety of medical and surgical treatments may be available, depending on the nature and severity of disease. Sinus surgery can be a highly effective alternative when medical therapy is unsuccessful. Procedures are generally performed on an outpatient basis and are done endoscopically (without external excisions). In most cases, nasal packing can be avoided. Stereotactic image guided surgery and Balloon Sinuplasty may be utilized for certain cases.

Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is similar, but the thyroid is underactive, and produces too little hormone. This causes the metabolism to slow down; as might be expected, symptoms are the opposite of those experienced when the body’s metabolism is faster than normal. You might experience sluggishness, depression, weight gain, constipation, dry skin, and sensitivity to cold. Hypothyroidism is often caused by Hashimoto’s Disease, a disorder of the immune system similar to Grave’s Disease.
Thyroid
Treatment of thyroid disorders is essential for maintaining good health. It will vary depending on whether you are suffering from a gland that is overactive or underactive. Hyperthyroidism is treated with radioactive iodine, anti-thyroid medication, or surgery. Hypothyroidism sufferers must rely on synthetic thyroid hormone. Thyroid nodules are removed surgically.

Ultrasound
The thyroid gland makes a hormone that regulates the body’s metabolism. The gland is located in front of the neck below the voice box. Lumps in the thyroid gland require thorough head and neck examination. Additional tests such as blood test, ultrasound or CT scanning may also be indicated.
MRI
A lump in the neck often is a benign swollen lymph node caused by inflammation or infection. Lymph nodes are located throughout the body and serve as our body’s filters. Any unresolved neck mass needs to be evaluated for more serious conditions such as cancer. Cancer of the head and neck is frequently associated with smoking and alcohol use. Early diagnosis and evaluation is important to maximize treatment options and outcomes. Additional testing may include lab tests, CT or MRI scanning and needle biopsy. Evaluation by other specialists such as radiation oncology and medical oncology may also be indicated.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
You have had a CT scan of your sinuses after using the maximum medical treatment as prescribed by your doctor. It is very important to have the CT scan done after this treatment. By reducing swelling and infection as much as possible, this treatment lets your doctor see what could be causing the repeat infections.
Chemotherapy
A biopsy will be performed to test abnormal lumps for cancer. If a tumor is diagnosed, then you might undergo surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination.
Radiation Therapy
Your doctor will give you a thorough physical examination and is likely to order a number of additional lab tests including CT scan, MRI, PET scan, and biopsy. Treatment depends on the type and stage of your cancer, as well as your overall age and health. You may undergo surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these therapies.

He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at the Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has been published in numerous medical journals and authored a chapter in a well-known medical textbook. Dr. Kroon enjoys caring for both children and adults. He and his wife, a pediatrician, have three children and live in Hunterdon County. He is board certified and on staff at Hunterdon Medical Center. Dr. Kroon is seeing patients in both our Flemington and Hillsborough locations.

Dr. Renukuntla is a board certified otolaryngologist who previously worked as an assistant professor at University of South Florida. She received her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University in 2003 and went on to complete her medical education and residency in otolaryngology at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She then completed a fellowship in facial plastic surgery under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) at University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a common surgical procedure in which the nose is reshaped. It is performed for a variety of reasons: lengthening or shortening the nose, straightening the bridge, reshaping the tip, changing the shape of the nostrils, and more. Rhinoplasty may be performed for cosmetic reasons, or to help patients with breathing difficulties.

Face Lift
Blepharoplasty, or surgery of the eyelids, can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision. The procedure is usually performed in an office with local anesthesia in as little as 45 minutes. Blepharoplasty can be combined with a facelift or treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet or dark circles under the eyes.

Protruding ears are those that stick out more than 2 cm from the side of the head. Prominent ears are more of a cosmetic concern than a medical issue, and may be corrected through the use of ear molding or surgery. Ear molding is a technique to mold deformed ears into a normal shape by manipulating the still-soft cartilage of an infant through the use of orthodontic molding materials. This procedure works best within the first 3-6 weeks; after this point, the ear cartilage stiffens and can no longer be molded. A procedure known as otoplasty can be used to surgically correct protruding ears. Again, it is preferable to wait until the ears have stopped growing before performing the operation. During an otoplasty, an incision is made behind the ears, and cartilage is used to create an anti-helical fold that serves to “pin” the ears back.
Cosmetic Surgery
The results of rhinoplasty are permanent, although subsequent injury or other factors can alter the nose’s appearance. Cosmetic surgery should only be done on a fully developed nose. Complete development has usually occurred by age 15 or 16 in females and by age 17 or 18 in males. If surgery is done before this time, continued development of the nose can alter the surgical results and possibly cause complications.

Allergy/immunology doctors, more commonly referred to as allergists, specialize in the management and treatment of asthma, allergies and eczema, as well as urticaria (hives), angioedema (swelling) and immunodeficiencies. Allergists initially complete a training in either general pediatrics or internal medicine, and then continue their training to focus on the care of both children and adults with allergic and immunologic conditions.
Fungus
Your doctor suspects that you have a sinus infection caused by a fungus. This may be the case if antibiotics have not cleared up the infection. Antibiotics work for bacterial infections but not for fungal infections.
Lesions
Head and neck masses aren’t particularly unusual. An unusual growth or lump is worrisome, but in many cases turns out to be nothing more than enlarged lymph nodes caused by inflammation or infection, or benign lesions.
Psoriasis
Other sources of infection include sand, dirt, soap, shampoo, and any object inserted into the ear canal too deeply (e.g., cotton swabs, safety pins, and fingernails). Skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis, and bony growths known as exostoses, may also contribute to swimmer’s ear. Even sweating can exacerbate the condition.

Allergies
You’ll need a thorough medical examination in order to diagnose the cause of your nasal obstruction. Your doctor will use an endoscope (a tiny, flexible camera) to look at your nasal passages, and may order diagnostic imaging tests (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs) or have you undergo allergy testing.
