Silver Lake Arbors

I lived at Silver Lake Arbors (Fenton, MI) for a year (2013) and I literally counted down the days until my lease was up.



The office staff are incredibly unprofessional - especially the landlord. She actually yelled at me twice and is possibly the most controversial/angriest person I've ever met. On the other hand, the maintenance workers are very nice and friendly. However, I really don't think they are licensed or even qualified. For example: my dishwasher would fill with green water that smelled TERRIBLE. Instead of fixing it, he told me to run it twice a day without any dishes and that won't happen. Another maintenance issue was heat didn't blow out of the vent in my 5 month old daughters room. They told me "that's just how it is" and suggested I buy a portable heater. I had 7 maintenance issues over the year and none of them were fixed. Not only that but they just show up at your apartment. I made appointments every time and even took work off a few times but not once did they come during the scheduled time. Instead they'd come days late without any notice.



Another negative thing was I lived on the ground floor and didn't have locks on any windows. This wasn't a HUGE deal but I didn't like that my children's room had a giant window that anyone could easily open. When my 2 year old figured out how to slide it open I ended up installing my own lock.



One nice thing is the apartments are big. But the materials used are extremely cheap (i.e. carpet, counters, cupboards, etc). I had better in a 390/month apartment. Here I paid close to 900/month.



I could go on forever about all the negatives...but the worst thing about living at Silver Lake Arbors was, they CONSTANTLY AMENDED MY LEASE! They increased my rent, increased fees, changed policies, etc. I even called Legal Services and met with an attorney because I thought it was illegal but they had a clause in the lease (which of course they didn't go over with me) that allows them to amend the lease without my approval. Overall I wish I had spent more time finding an apartment. They're one of the worst apartments in Fenton yet they're the priciest. My advice is to go somewhere else. If you HAVE to live there CAREFULLY read the lease and don't sign anything that allows them to make unnecessary changes.
