Dave & Jane's Crabhouse

We took our first trip here a couple weeks ago. We were 15 mins early for our reservation so we went to the bar, when I asked for a certain mixed drink the bartender made a face and said no she couldn't make it so I was unsure of what I wanted, okay fine but instead of suggesting something else or anything she just walked away and said to let her know. Maybe 15 mins or so later I had decided on a frozen drink that you have advertised on a paper at the bar but the bartender had disappeared for awhile now waiting on table and there was a guy behind the bar, he asked me if I needed anything but when I told him, he said he was just a bar back and he couldn't make any of that stuff that he could only get beer and then he stood around along with some of the waitresses on their cell phones as I wait for a bartender to get me a drink. I just dont think a bartender should be out waiting tables leaving the bar unattended. When she did come back and I asked for that drink she did not seem happy and even made a comment because it was a frozen drink, I understand they take a little longer to make and you are busy but that was what I wanted and if its a problem then dont advertise it. Finally when we get seated we just both got the AYCE but I told the waitress that I would not be eating any of the Maryland crab. The food was good however they bring you so much on a tray that before you even get halfway through it, the rest of it is cold. When we were ready for our second tray my husband had also decided that he did not want any more Maryland crab either so we were just going to tell the waitress to only bring the shrimp and crab legs on the second tray but she didn't check first she just brought out the second tray and it was almost all Maryland crab on the tray. Also just a couple side notes, unsure if it is a requirement but why do all the waitresses wear extremely short shorts but its a bit chilly and they wear long sleeves? Our waitress was quite tall and we were in a booth so when she stood at our table, not to be rude but it was basically her crotch area in extremely short shorts right in our face. We also had to listen to our waitress tell the table beside us how they have an older couple that comes in I think she said every week a certain day and she said they get there at opening (11am) and they are there until 6pm or so, she was stating how when the waitresses see this couple come in they all run to the back to try to avoid being the one to wait on the couple. I thought this was very rude to talk about these regular customers like that. I know this is not a fancy restaurant and it is a laid back environment but maybe the staff was a bit too unprofessional. We came here because of the AYCE and because we heard it was good and as I said the food was good when it was hot but the experience wasn't very good.

Boy, did they embarrass me last night! I'd been bragging about how great their AYCE is to my best friend from southern MD. He always say that nothing compares to southern Maryland seafood! He came up yesterday to spend a few days with us. He wanted to go to Dave & Jane's because I had been telling him it was as good as any seafood place near him. The steamed shrimp were not seasoned at all, we had to ask for a cup of old bay and that didn't do the trick. and then the crab legs! yes, they were of good size, but out of the 3 trays we had, I had exactly 2 legs (not clusters, but legs) where the meat came out without having to use a knife to dig it out! they were on the dry side, but the taste was fairly good. The steamed crabs were full, but they too, could be seasoned better and were not very hot, temperature-wise. and then there was the chicken...we got a small thigh and 2 wings! come on...2 grown men and that's what we get! needless to say, I was very, very disappointed. My friend wanted to pay the $100+ bill to thank me for letting him stay thru the weekend with me, but I was too embarrassed since I recommended their restaurant. I have been going there for nearly 10 years for the AYCE and never once have I had a single complaint about my meal. I usually go there 3-4 times a summer..probably eaten there well over 30 times and it's been great every time....now I'll have to think long and hard before I travel up the road to Dave & Jane's again....
