MossRehab's Motor Control Analysis Lab benefits patients with movement dysfunction or impaired functional activity due to neurological disorders, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, and multiple sclerosis. These studies help physicians identify muscles that might respond to corrective surgery, as well as assess the effectiveness of non-surgical therapies. They can also provide data on the effectiveness of drug therapies and can measure the degree of improvement after treatment. The lab also helps physicians identify abnormalities in a patient's muscle tone, and the presence of spasticity and contracture.

Mental Health
The Community Re-entry Program is for those individuals 14 years of age or older who require assistance with selfâ€‘directed performance of functional routines and behaviors necessary for living in the community and returning to school or work, with social supports. The clientâ€™s medical acuity and stability must allow for active participation in outpatient services for goal attainment as determined by the clinical treatment team. Assessment by the clinical team will determine intensity of services. The program serves clients with impairments in body function or structure that result in difficulty executing and participating in activities of daily living including self-care, mobility, speech and language, cognition, resumption of life roles, home and community re-integration as well as fulfillment of vocational roles. Clients who are unable to self-administer medications and do not have a personal care attendant during treatment times cannot be served. The clientâ€™s behavior and mental health must allow for active participation with the reasonable expectation of goal attainment by the treatment team while active within the program.

Joint Replacement
Aquatic therapy helps people with a wide range of disorders requiring rehabilitation, such as arthritis or back injuries, as well as people who have had joint replacement surgery. Skilled pool therapy is an individualized treatment program developed by a licensed therapist based on the patient's physical therapy evaluation.

Transfemoral Amputations (above knee amputations): This amputation includes all levels of thigh amputations from the hip to the knee joint. Above-knee amputation, also known as transfemoral amputation, removes the leg above the knee joint when that limb has been severely damaged or diseased. This mid-thigh amputation is chosen when the lower leg and knee cannot be saved. Common reasons for this procedure include peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, infection/gangrene, trauma and tumor/cancer.

Those in the LGBTQ+ community who decide to make a permanent change to their bodies may elect to undergo a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), phalloplasty (creation of penis), or vaginoplasty (construction of a vagina). A pelvic floor therapist can provide pre- and post-surgical care to ensure the best outcomes.

Skin Care
Skin within the prosthesis needs to be checked daily. Always check your skin after removing the prosthesis, especially if you participate in an activity that is out of the ordinary. Dancing at a wedding, a weekend game of softball, or a long walk on vacationâ€”these all can add unusual amounts or points of pressure inside your prosthesis and can cause skin breakdown.
