please try another hosp if pos...

please try another hosp if possible .I went in the middle of the night because it appeared my dog was in pain .My dog was misdiagnosed and I had to take her to my reg vet in the am ,so happy they did a detailed exam .It was clear that my dog was in pain ,thank god she is still alive

Choices in pet foods and treats expand each day, and it becomes very difficult to make sense of the often conflicting information we receive about pet nutrition. We are proud to offer a resource to the Central New York area in our Clinical Nutrition Service, led by Dr. Renee Streeter.
Comprehensive Examination
We understand that patients sometimes decline between the time of their appointment with the primary care veterinarian and the ultrasound exam. If your pet arrives in an unstable condition, one of our emergency doctors will fully evaluate them. Our emergency veterinarian will then contact you with medical recommendations based upon that physical examination. Our routine emergency charges for the exam and any medical treatments will apply. Our staff will contact your primary care veterinarian as soon as possible to give them an update on your pet’s condition.

Pain Management
No single medication or method is effective in all pain situations, and most veterinarians lack the training and the time to research different modalities and medications we can use to increase comfort for our pets. Far too often we see pets given only non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), or placed on doses of other pain medications in combinations and dosages that are inadequate to achieve pain control.

I’ve slowed down a lot in the past few years (my human friend can keep up with me now, but my other pack member Casey leaves us in the dust! He’s crazy!). Considering I’ve been shot (birdshot which may be why I was unable to hunt anymore and am so afraid of thunder and gunshots), had Lyme disease, almost died from Leptospirosis (Thank you VMC for saving me!), have arthritis and an enlarged spleen, I think I’m doing pretty well!

RMBDs have a high risk for contamination with bacteria, parasites, and other pathogens. In addition to the risks of nutritional inadequacy and contamination with bacteria and parasites, other health concerns for an animal eating a RMBD include risks from ingestion of bones if they are included (e.g., constipation, diarrhea, dental fractures, gastrointestinal obstructions) and diet-induced hyperthyroidism from excessive ingestion of thyroid tissue.

Advances in veterinary cancer treatments are made every day and many types of cancers are very treatable. In fact, dogs and cats with cancer are living months or even years longer than they would have with the same types of cancers just a few years ago. Many cancers in animals, while still very serious, can largely be managed as “chronic conditions” with ongoing surveillance and/or treatment, similar to the way veterinarians treat heart disease, kidney disease, or diabetes.

The mission of the Oncology Service is to provide cutting-edge treatments for your pet with cancer, while focusing on quality-of-life. The VMC Oncology Service has numerous, up-to-date chemotherapy protocols to treat a wide-range of cancers. The melanoma vaccine (Oncept®), and targeted drugs such as Palladia® and Masitinib® are also available. Radiation therapy is not offered on-site. Dr. Rassnick can provide consults regarding the potential usefulness of radiation in your pet’s treatment program. It may be beneficial in certain cases, and we can assist you in obtaining this treatment for your pet if appropriate.

Pre-anesthetic blood tests are performed for surgical patients, and provide us with important information about your pet's ability to undergo anesthesia and surgery, thus decreasing the level of risk associated with the procedures.
