You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for your ultrasound exam. You may need to remove all clothing and jewelry in the area to be examined. You may be asked to wear a gown during the procedure. No other preparation is required.

During your visit to Constantouris Foot Care you will receive a comprehensive examination of ordering blood work, x-rays, MRI or other diagnostic tests needed to make a proper diagnosis and to develop the appropriate personalized treatment plan.
Radiology
Dr. Constantouris is specifically trained to supervise and interpret radiology examinations, will analyze the images and send a signed report to your primary care physician or the physician who referred you for the exam, who will share the results with you. In most cases Dr. Constantouris can discuss results with you at the conclusion of your examination.

Bunions
Bunions are due primarily to genetic factors, but can become painful over time due to trauma, ill-fitting shoes and poor foot structure. The bone connected to the big toe starts to drift outward pushing the big toe sideways into the other toes which can also lead to painful hammertoes, corns & calluses. Untreated bunions not only can become painful, but can become progressively worse.
Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail occurs when a corner of the nail grows into the flesh of the toe, causing redness and swelling, followed by pain and often infection. Ingrown toenails can occur due to improper trimming of the toenail, trauma or genetic factors.

Corns
Does your toe flex down instead of pointing forward? Hammertoe is a deformity of the second, third, fourth or fifth toes. In this condition, the toe is bent at the middle joint, resembling a hammer. If untreated, hammertoes may become very inflexible and require surgery. People with hammertoe may have calluses or corns on the top of the middle joint of the toe or on the tip of the toe. The patient may also feel pain in their toes or feet and have difficulty finding comfortable shoes.

CAUSES: Fungal toenails are caused by an organism that grows in and under the nail. The fungus likes to grow in warm, moist places like your shoes. Many patients pick up fungal toenail infections in the gym locker room, from a nail salon, wet shoes or from trauma. Fungus can stay in the nails for many years and can be passed from one person to another.

Dr. Kekatos received her education from the prestigious New York College of Podiatric Medicine, where she honed her expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of foot and ankle problems. Following her education, she completed her residency at Stony Brook / Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center, further refining her skills and knowledge in podiatry.

Foot warts (plantar warts) are caused by a virus. You may notice little black dots in the wart. People sometimes think these dots are splinters. They are actually the blood vessels that nourish the wart. You can get viral warts anywhere you walk barefoot, such as the locker room, karate studio, dance studio, local pool, or even from a pedicure salon.

Plantar Fasciitis
A common foot complaint is pain in the bottom of the heel. This is often referred to as heel spurs or plantar fasciitis. It commonly is painful the first few steps in the morning or after rest. It tends to get worse the longer one stands during the day. It is caused by subtle changes in foot structure that occurs over time. These changes result in the gradual flattening of the arch. As this occurs a thick ligament (the plantar fascia) that is attached to the bottom of the heel and fans out into the ball of the foot is stretched excessively. This ligament acts as a shock absorber while walking. As the foot flattens it stretches. If it stretches too much it gets inflamed and causes pain. Over time the pull of the ligament creates a spur on the heel bone. It is important to realize that it is not the spur that causes the pain and therefore the spur does not need to be removed in most cases. This condition may also cause generalized arch pain called plantar fasciitis. This is an inflammation of the plantar fascial ligament.

He graduated St. John's University, College of Pharmacy with a BS in Pharmacy in 1985. He is a registered licensed Pharmacist in the State of New York, practicing community pharmacy for many years. Upon immediate completion of Pharmacy School he attended the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and graduated in 1989. He completed a 2 year Podiatric Surgical Residency. He is Board Certified in Foot Surgery and Board Certified in Foot Orthopedics.

Dr. Eileen Constantouris has been in private practice since 1998. She has served the Queens and Suffolk Counties for many years. She graduated St. Joseph's College in 1991 with honors. Upon immediate completion of College she attended the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and graduated in 1995. She completed a three year Podiatric Surgical Residency. She is Board Certified in Foot Surgery.
