Pregnancy
— Women are often at a higher risk of developing pelvic floor dysfunction, usually due to pregnancy and childbirth (sometimes multiple pregnancies and births). The hormone increase during pregnancy loosens the pelvic floor muscles, while the added pressure to the pelvic floor from weight gain during pregnancy can cause those muscles to weaken over time. While men also experience pelvic floor dysfunction, women are largely at a higher risk for this condition due to these reasons.

There are many different causes of chronic pain. Such as pain from headaches, joint pain, pain from an injury, and low back pain. Other kinds of chronic pain include tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and pain affecting specific parts of the body, such as the shoulders, pelvis, and neck. Generalized muscle or nerve pain can also develop into a chronic condition.

Sciatica
— Sciatica can be caused by a number of spine conditions (such as the two mentioned above), but it essentially describes the pinching of the large sciatic nerve in your spine that runs from your lower back all the way down to your calves. When this nerve is compressed, it can cause pain, tingling and numbness anywhere from your lower back, down through your buttocks and hamstrings, and into the backs of your lower legs.
Whiplash
— Similar to whiplash, the impact of a motor vehicle accident can cause your spine to twist in severe ways, which can damage the gel-like discs that are between each vertebra. When spinal discs are damaged, the nearby nerves can become pressed against, causing radiating pain in the lower back and sometimes into the buttocks and legs.
Pinched Nerve
— This type of assisted stretching helps to deepen a stretch and really isolate the tight muscles in the body. Stretching helps to improve range of motion and posture, decrease pinched nerve pain, and relieve other pain and stiffness in the body.
Ankle Surgery
Preparing for surgery can sometimes feel like running a mental marathon. You have so many questions about what to expect, what your recovery will be like, etc. And of course, there is no guarantee with surgery. Everyone hopes that they have a good outcome, but there is no 100% guarantee that your spine surgery, knee surgery or ankle surgery will fix everything completely back to normal.
Orthopedic Surgery
Pre-surgical physical therapy is proven to improve the outcomes of orthopedic surgery compared to patients who do not seek PT treatment prior to their operation. The best outcomes, however, occur when pre-surgical physical therapy is coupled with post-surgical physical therapy.

Tyler graduated from The College at Brockport in 2016 with a degree in Athletic Training. He then moved on to Stony Brook University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, graduating in 2019.
