On September 24th, 2010, I had an appointment with Dr. Shaff, with a major complaint of blurry distance vision. I informed Dr. Shaff of having laser surgery approximately 5 years ago. Dr. Shaff gave me an eye exam, and prescribed reading glasses. He stated that as long as I wore the reading glasses when reading or doing close up work, my distance vision would get better. When choosing the frames for the reading glasses. Dr. Shaff stated I had a choice of "half-glasses" and "whole frame" glasses for the reading glasses. He explained that the half-glasses would allow me to read looking down, and if I had to look up, I would see distance clearly. If I purchased the whole frame glasses, I would have to push them down towards the end of my nose every time I wanted to look up. With this information, I chose the half-glasses frame.
Approximately one week later I picked up my glasses and proceeded to wear them when reading or doing close up work. Approximately 3 weeks later, I called Dr. Shaff to say my distance vision was not getting better, to which he said there was nothing he could do. This week, on 11/9, I again called Dr. Shaff. His secretary said he wasn't in and she would have him return a call to me on Wednesday 11/10/10. As of 2:15pm today, (Wednesday 11/10), since I had not gotten a call back from Dr. Shaff, I called his office again, and asked to speak directly with him. He again stated he could not do anything about this problem and stated that he "told me I needed bifocals". I do not recall his mentioning bi-focals AT ALL. Also, if I needed a prescription for distance, why would he only fit me for "reading glasses" and tell me my distance vision would get better after wearing the reading glasses? I then personally went to his office at approximately 3:10pm and asked for a copy of my prescription and to speak with Dr. Shaff directly again, hoping that if I spoke with him in person, he would offer some sort of resolution. He again started saying he offered me bi-focals, which he DID NOT. I told him I had seen eye doctors for at least the last 35-40 years, and that I had never been in a situation that a professional office wouldn't even try to resolve a customer complaint and/or issue with a product or service. When I said that I would never come back to his office, he specifically stated..."promise?" This type of behavior is completely inappropriate, especially coming from a professional service provider.
Because of Dr. Shaff's inability to provide the correct prescription, my distance vision has gotten much worse, resulting in many headaches due to the eye strain, and that I can no longer drive after dark.
